Arista CD Radial Cleaning System — Geared Radial Wipe, 18 mL Cleaning Solution Included, Takes Any 12 cm Disc
A hinged case that cleans a compact disc in the one direction a compact disc should be cleaned, and does it the same way every time.
Almost everyone who has wiped a disc has wiped it in circles, the way a record is cleaned. On an LP that is correct: the groove is a spiral traced by a stylus, and a circular wipe follows it. On a compact disc it is the worst available choice. The data is a spiral too, but it is read by a laser, and both the tracking servo and the error correction behind it cope far better with damage that crosses the tracks than with damage that runs along them. A mark running across the spiral interrupts each track for a fraction of a turn and gets filled in without the listener ever knowing. The same mark running along the spiral takes out a long unbroken run of a single track, which is the case the correction cannot rebuild. That is why every serious disc-care instruction says the same thing: from the centre outward to the edge, never around.
This kit mechanises that instruction. The disc sits in the base on a platter with a toothed rim, playing surface upward. The lid carries a felt pad on a toothed rim of its own. A small idler gear at the hinge couples the two, so with the lid closed and the platter turned by hand, the pad rotates against the disc rather than with it, and the contact path sweeps across the tracks over the whole surface. It does that identically on the fiftieth disc and on the first, which is more than can be said for a shirt-tail.
The cleaning fluid is included rather than sold separately: an 18 mL bottle of Arista Compact Disc Cleaning Solution, isopropyl alcohol and distilled water, which happens to be the mixture the disc-care literature recommends to people who want to mix their own.
Worth stating plainly, because this category attracts overclaiming: it is a cleaner, not a scratch repair kit. It lifts fingerprints, dust, oils and the fine haze a disc picks up from years in a sleeve. It does not fill, polish or remove a scratch and it does not resurface anything. What it does very well is settle the question that arrives the moment a disc starts skipping — dirt or damage — quickly, and without anybody reaching for a shirt-tail.
The case is badged for compact disc, and the tray takes any standard 12 cm disc, so DVDs and game discs sit in it the same way. Closed, it is a flat case that stores like a jewel case beside the player, and the whole thing runs by hand with no batteries, no motor and nothing to fail.
These are new, unused stock.

NAD T572 5-Disc CD Changer – HDCD Decoder, Coax & Optical Out
Five discs at once with an HDCD decoder on board — High Definition Compatible Digital folds roughly twenty bits of range into an ordinary sixteen-bit CD, and most players never had the decoder to read it. The carousel reloads four while the fifth keeps playing, which the cheaper T571 could not do. Coaxial and optical digital out, original NAD remote. Very good condition.
Rotel RCC-935 5-Disc CD Changer with Coaxial Output
A five-disc carousel from 1997 with a coaxial S/PDIF output, so it feeds an outboard DAC as readily as it drives a preamp from its own 1.5V analogue outs. Signal to noise 90dB, channel separation 80dB, distortion 0.09%. Every carousel position was loaded and advanced during testing. Very good condition.
Denon DCM-420 5-Disc CD Changer Coax Out & Variable Out, Remote
A five-disc carousel with an 18-bit super-linear DAC at 8x oversampling — 97 dB dynamic range, 0.03% distortion. Fixed 2 V outputs and a variable output, so it can run straight into a power amp, plus a coaxial digital out if you would rather use your own DAC. Pressed discs only; no CD-R or CD-RW. Made in Japan, good condition, remote and printed manual included.
Technics SL-PD8 5-Disc CD Changer – MASH DAC, Optical, Remote
Harman Kardon FL8350 5-Disc CD Changer with Digital Output
A five-disc carousel with Play Exchange, so you can swap discs while one is still playing. Philips TDA1305T one-bit DAC on an SF-91 mechanism, 96 dB dynamic range, coaxial S/PDIF out if you want to use it as a transport, and a headphone jack with its own level control. Confirmed playing CD-Rs. Level One serviced; good cosmetic condition.
Yamaha CDC-902 5-Disc CD Changer – Original Remote, Plays CD-R
Near the top of Yamaha's Natural Sound carousel range, and the numbers say so — 106dB signal to noise, 96dB dynamic range, 0.003% distortion. The line output is variable from the remote, so it can drive a power amp directly in a simple system. It reads CD-Rs, which Yamaha never claimed for this generation; we verified that here. Original remote. Cosmetically graded Good.
Sony CDP-CE375 5-Disc CD Changer — Optical Out | Play & Exchange
A five-disc carousel using Sony's Play 1/Exchange 4 mechanism — you can swap four discs while the fifth keeps playing. Hybrid Pulse D/A conversion, 0.0045% distortion, better than 102 dB signal-to-noise, and a Toslink optical output for an outboard DAC or receiver. Reads CD-R and CD-RW. A third-party universal remote comes with it, covering the key functions but not all of the original ones.
