Description

Paradigm Signature SUB 2 — 10″ High-Impedance Subwoofer Drivers 27.7lbs each! 6 Available.

Extremely specialized, high-impedance 10-inch subwoofer drivers sourced directly from a former Paradigm engineer — engineering-equivalent to the drivers used in the Paradigm Signature SUB 2, offered individually or as a complete matched set of six for advanced users only.

Paradigm’s Signature SUB 2 is one of the most ambitious subwoofers ever built, using six high-excursion 10-inch drivers in a sealed hexagonal enclosure, driven by a 3,000-watt Ultra-Class-D amplifier with power-factor correction and an unusually high internal rail voltage. To make that system work, Paradigm engineered drivers with very high single-driver impedance (approximately 50 ohms each) so that all six could be wired in parallel, presenting roughly a 10-ohm load to the amplifier — exactly what the high-voltage, lower-current 3 kW module is designed to see. These are not general-purpose woofers; they are system-specific transducers optimized for a unique amplifier architecture.

Each driver weighs approximately 27.7 lbs, reflecting a massive motor structure, long-excursion voice coil, and heavily built frame. In the production SUB 2, the driver array alone accounts for well over 150 lbs of the system’s total weight. The SUB 2’s amplifier runs from a roughly 400 V DC bus derived from a direct-off-the-line, PFC-equipped supply — which again underscores just how unusual the drive requirements are for these transducers.

Because of their very high individual impedance, driving a single one of these drivers from a typical home amplifier will only yield a few watts before the amp runs out of voltage swing and begins to clip. To get meaningful output you will need to:

Wire all six drivers in parallel to approximate the original ~10-ohm load, and

Use an amplifier with very high peak output voltage — such as a Paradigm SUB 2 amplifier module, or a powerful pro-audio amplifier (for example, a Behringer iNuke/NX 3000-class unit is specifically recommended by the engineer)

The 3000-series models are generally the better choice as they offer more flexible bridging options than the 6000. Alternatively, the engineer reports success using a 600-watt Class D amplifier feeding the secondary of a 600 W toroidal transformer, with the driver connected to the 120 V primary — effectively stepping up the amplifier’s output voltage for use below approximately 80 Hz. This is an advanced technique requiring a thorough understanding of transformer coupling and electrical safety; it is mentioned here only to indicate the kind of engineering knowledge these drivers demand.

These drivers are not suitable for typical plug-and-play DIY subwoofer builds. They are appropriate only for:

Owners of Paradigm Signature SUB 2 units seeking authentic spare or replacement drivers

Very advanced DIYers who fully understand high-impedance driver arrays, high-voltage amplification, and parallel wiring schemes

Experimenters comfortable with transformer-coupled or step-up driven systems and all associated safety considerations

Each driver has been visually inspected and tested for basic continuity and mechanical integrity but is sold as a raw driver, not as a finished subwoofer system.
