Paisley Reference Two Bookshelf Speakers, Pair – Made in Canada

A pair of Paisley Research Reference Two bookshelf speakers, made in Canada, in walnut-finish cabinets with black front baffles and their black cloth grilles. They have been tested on our bench, they play nicely, and they are in very good condition. One woofer is a replacement fitted by a previous owner, not by us; the details are under Condition.

What it is

Paisley Research, of Markham, Ontario, was the work of Canadian speaker designer Ian Paisley, and its speakers were closely linked to API (Audio Products International), the Ontario company behind Mirage and Energy. The Reference Two comes from Paisley’s phase/time compensated Reference series. It is a two-way, bass-reflex design: a dome tweeter on a Paisley Research faceplate handles the highs, an 8-inch woofer handles the bass and midrange, and a front-firing port below the woofer extends the low end. Because the port faces forward, the cabinets are easy to place on a shelf or on stands near a wall.

The walnut-finish cabinets give the pair a warm, classic look, and the black cloth grilles carry the Paisley Research badge. With the grilles off, the drivers sit on textured black baffles.

Around the back, each speaker has a recessed terminal plate with a pair of spring-clip terminals, which take bare wire or pin connectors. Our own Radique Audio pin connectors are the natural match, and our Custom Speaker Cable Builder will make a pair to length, ready to plug in.

Condition

Very Good, and free of significant marks. The walnut-finish cabinets and front baffles present well, the black cloth grilles are included, and the back panels show only light wear at the corners. One thing to know: the woofer in one speaker is a replacement, fitted by a previous owner rather than by us, so the two speakers look different with the grilles off. Both speakers test and play nicely on our bench, and the Paisley Research tweeters in both are original. We would normally sell this model for $245, but we have discounted this pair because of the replacement woofer.
