This exceptional Japanese-made Pioneer TX-6700 is a sophisticated AM/FM stereo tuner from the golden era of audio equipment, featuring outstanding build quality and impressive sound reproduction capabilities. Manufactured during Pioneer’s prime years in the mid-to-late 1970s, this component delivers the warm, clear sound quality that vintage Pioneer equipment is renowned for.
The TX-6700 showcases Pioneer’s engineering excellence with its high-quality FM front-end section utilizing a high-frequency amplification single-stage circuit that combines an FET with a low noise figure and a frequency linear 3-row varicon. The tuner’s IF section employs a dedicated high-integration IC developed by Pioneer, consolidating over 200 elements into a single IC for superior performance.
Sound quality is enhanced by the 5-stage limiter that virtually eliminates AM noise, while the IC PLL circuit in the MPX section improves the stability of separation characteristics. The muting circuit effectively eliminates inter-station noise during channel selection, automatically engaging for FM-auto reception and turning off for FM-mono.
The elegant front panel features a multi-function meter that serves as both a center tuning meter when receiving FM and as a signal meter when receiving AM to indicate signal strength. The intuitive controls allow for precise tuning and optimal reception under various conditions.

Braun Atelier T1 Slim AM/FM Tuner — 9 Presets, Quartz, Japan
An analogue tuner given a quartz-referenced five-digit readout — the precision of a synthesised design with a real analogue front end behind it, which tends to hold a weak signal more gracefully. The nine presets are not memories: each station button carries its own tuning adjustment, set by hand with a small screwdriver through the panel, so it is effectively nine little tuners in one chassis. Made in Japan, 445 mm wide and 70 mm tall to match the Atelier deck. Good condition.
Sansui TU-5900 AM/FM Stereo Tuner — Dolby FM, Made in Japan
An analogue AM/FM stereo tuner from Sansui's strongest years, built in Japan in the mid-seventies as the matching partner to the AU-series integrated amplifiers, and a good deal more serious inside than its modest size suggests.

AKAI AT-A1 AM/FM Stereo Tuner – Ultra Slim Profile
An analog tuner from 1980 in a chassis 50mm tall — two inches, which is about as thin as a full-width component gets. Needle-pointer dial with a printed scale, an AM/FM selector, a single RCA output, and nothing else. Tuning engages smoothly across both bands and the output is clean. Condition good, with a clean front bezel and honest age on a 45-year-old component.
AKAI AT-K11 AM/FM Stereo Tuner – Professional Build Grade
A 1981 analog tuner with a mechanical servo that locks onto a station and holds it, so there is no digital drift to think about. 65dB signal to noise on FM, 775mV out on FM and 250mV on AM, into a single RCA pair. Nearly ten pounds of chassis, heavier than this end of the range usually got. Tested across both bands; good cosmetic condition.
