Totem
Totem Acoustic was founded in Montreal in 1987 by designer Vince Bruzzese, and its first speaker, the Model 1 mini-monitor, made its debut at the 1989 Toronto hi-fi show. We carry Totem towers, bookshelf speakers, on-wall and surround speakers, centre channels and subwoofers. We’ve had more than 60 Totem listings so far. Every used Totem here is inspected, tested and serviced as required, then photographed in-house and covered by our Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty and Perpetual Trade-Back Program. Don’t see the model you want? Tell us on First Dibs and we’ll email you when one arrives.
Our best-selling Totem models so far: the Tribe I on-wall speaker, followed by the Dreamcatcher and the Sttaf tower.
The Totem story
Vince Bruzzese founded Totem Acoustic in Montreal in 1987, by the company’s own count. Stereophile says it burst onto the high-end scene at the 1989 Toronto show with the Model 1, a small two-way mini-monitor.
Small speakers, big reviews. Stereophile reviewed the Model 1 in the early 1990s, then the Mani-2, Tabù, Signature Model 1 and Forest. In 2009 it noted that the Model One had been in continuous production since the end of the 1980s.
Home theatre. Totem added the compact Mite and Mite-T by 1998, and later the Dreamcatcher system. Stereophile describes Totem as a Canadian manufacturer, and the company is based in Montreal.
Which Totem is which?
Model 1 family (from 1989): the Model 1, Signature Model 1 and Model One.
Mani-2: a two-way stand-mount with two woofers mounted magnet to magnet, one of them inside the cabinet, and later the Mani-2 Signature (2009).
Mite and Mite-T (by 1998): compact two-ways.
Forest (by 2001): a floorstander about three feet tall, whose lower cabinet can be filled with sand.
Other models we’ve handled: the Arro and Sttaf towers, the Tribe on-wall speakers, the Dreamcatcher and the Storm subwoofer.
