Beautiful Focal Center in Light Alder Wood, Made in France
The CC70S Center has very Focal innovation built-in: the 13cm mid/bass unit is one of the company’s Polyglass drivers, in which the cellulose surface is covered with minute hollow glass spheres, while the 25mm tweeter is an all-new aluminum/magnesium inverted dome design Focal calls TNV2.
It’s mounted in a suspension system using Poron microcellular urethane, used to ensure linearity and a flatter frequency response up to 30kHz without break-up, and assembled using the surface tension of the adhesive employed, to minimize the amount required and thus the weight. As Focal puts it, ‘the masses in high frequency units are so low that every extra microgram of adhesive is critical to performance’.
That’s typical of the kind of attention to detail the company brings to its products – and the kind of flexibility in-house production allows.
The voice coil is also kept small to the same end. The tweeter is fitted to the metal structure wrapped over the top of the cabinet and carrying the Focal logo, so even what looks like a design element actually serves a real purpose.

Dual 5.5-inch woofers on the patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround, a 1-inch hyperbolic aluminium dome, 92 dB and up to 200 watts, rear-ported to 60 Hz. The grille is not included. Condition very good.
Yamaha NS-C90 Center Speaker – Dual-Angle Tilt, Made in Japan
The cabinet is asymmetrical on purpose: flip it over and it tilts the other way, aiming up at you from a low shelf or down at you from the top of a cabinet. Sealed rather than ported, so it needs no rear clearance. Two full-range drivers, nothing crossing in the vocal band. 6 ohms, 50 watts nominal. Built in Japan; very good condition.
Paradigm Reference LCR-450 — Made in Canada, High Gloss Black
A Canadian-built Reference monitor in a high gloss black we have not had this model in before — the line of this era usually turns up in black, light cherry or dark rosenut. Sealed MTM design with Paradigm's pure-aluminium dome tweeter, and it works as a centre or as a left or right. Excellent, with its original box.
