The Mini was designed by Paul Barton in close collaboration with Canada’s National Research Council, where NRC’s anechoic research facilities allowed PSB to measure and refine driver behaviour and cabinet resonance to a standard that most speaker manufacturers simply cannot access. The result is a speaker that is reliably, honestly neutral — not flavoured to impress on a brief audition, but built to reward long listening sessions with natural timbre, stable imaging, and easy dynamic composure. This is why the Stratus Mini has remained a firm recommendation in the used market long after its production run ended.

The 19mm aluminium dome tweeter with ferrofluid cooling is a fully proprietary PSB design, optimised for unusually even off-axis dispersion — critical for maintaining a wide, stable soundstage in real listening rooms where listener position varies. The 165mm polypropylene woofer with rubber surround and a substantial 567g magnet structure is engineered for linear high-output performance, with excursion capability that belies the cabinet’s modest dimensions. The 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley crossover at 2,200 Hz ensures clean, seamless driver integration with minimal phase anomaly at the crossover point. The front-firing 2″ port allows placement closer to a rear wall than most rear-ported designs, and the -10 dB LF cutoff of 34 Hz is genuinely impressive for a speaker of this size.

The black ash cabinets are solidly built and present very well in VG condition, with the rounded, refined aesthetic typical of the Stratus series.
