Description

Sony TA-3650 55 Watt Per Channel Stereo Integrated Amplifier – Classic Japanese Hi-Fi Power

This pristine example of Japanese audio engineering from Sony represents the golden age of stereo amplification with exceptional build quality and sonic performance. The TA-3650 delivers 55 watts per channel into 8 ohms with remarkably low distortion and impressive dynamic headroom, making it capable of driving a wide range of speakers with authority and finesse. This particular example includes the original optional wood-grain side panels, which were sold separately as model TAC-15 when new.

Built during Sony’s 1976-1979 production run, this amplifier features a sophisticated direct-coupled pure complementary output design with dual FET input stages for enhanced transparency. The comprehensive connectivity includes two phono inputs for MM cartridges, tuner, auxiliary, and dual tape loops with full recording capabilities. The precision-detent volume control and comprehensive tone shaping with bass and treble controls, plus high and low filters, provide exceptional flexibility for any audio system.

The attractive wood-grain finish side panels complement the brushed aluminum faceplate beautifully. These panels feature a simulated wood appearance rather than real wood veneer, but provide the classic vintage aesthetic that makes these amplifiers so desirable among collectors and enthusiasts. Many units are found without these optional panels, making this a particularly complete example.

The robust construction utilizes a substantial power supply with dual 10,000µF reservoir capacitors, ensuring excellent transient response and dynamic power delivery. The amplifier’s clean, clinical yet musical sound signature makes it exceptionally versatile across all music genres, from delicate acoustic performances to powerful rock presentations.
