Description

A slim mid-seventies Marantz integrated amplifier, through our Level 1 service, in very good condition, with a phono stage, a three-band tone section and a microphone input on the front panel.

What it is

The 1070 belongs to the slim-chassis family Marantz built in the mid-seventies alongside the 1060 amplifier and the 112 tuner, all sized to sit in the same wood case. It is rated at 35 watts per channel into 8 ohms across the full 20 Hz to 20 kHz band at 0.3% distortion, and it carries a proper MM phono stage for your turntable. Designed in the USA and built in Japan, 1975 to 1978.

The front panel gives you more control than most amplifiers of its size. The tone section has three sliders, bass, mid and treble, where most of its rivals stopped at two, so you can shape the vocal range without touching the bottom or top end. There are high and low filters for noisy records and rumble, a loudness switch, a balance slider, and a mode selector that runs left, right, stereo, reverse and mono. The input selector takes a microphone as well as phono, tuner, aux and two tape decks, with a front-panel mic jack beside the headphone socket.

Around the back, the preamplifier and power amplifier sections are linked by pre-out and main-in jacks, so they can be separated to add an equalizer or to use either half on its own. Both tape loops have RCA jacks and a DIN socket. There are terminals for a main and a remote or ambience pair of speakers, a chassis ground post, and two AC outlets, one switched and one unswitched, for a turntable or tuner.

It is shown bare, in its factory black metal case. If you would like it in wood, a walnut-grain cabinet sized for the 1070 is listed separately.

The service it has had

Level 1 service, carried out on our bench:

Condition

Very good, and free of significant marks. The brushed silver faceplate, the knobs and sliders, the panel legends and the black case all present well, as the photographs show.

A clean, fully serviced mid-seventies Marantz in the slim chassis, with the controls of a much bigger amplifier.

🎚️ Gold Series RCA Interconnects

Our own Gold Series RCA Stereo Interconnect is a shielded, gold-plated stereo pair, in stock and ready to go. It is the cable that connects this to the rest of your system, and it is a straightforward upgrade on the free leads that come in the box with most equipment. 👉

🔌 Speaker Cable, Built on Our Own Bench

We hand-build speaker cable here in any length you need — pick the gauge and the terminations on our Custom Speaker Cable Builder. We also make our own gold-plated banana plugs, spades and pin connectors if you would rather terminate cable you already have. 👉

📶 Add Bluetooth — The RA-Twin II, Built For Exactly This

The 1070 was built decades before Bluetooth reached home stereo, and it does not need replacing to get it. Our own RA-Twin II adapter plugs into the aux or a tape input on the back and streams from a phone, tablet or laptop — nothing modified inside, and it comes with a starter cable so it works out of the box. If you want it done properly, the Gold Series RX Bundle pairs the adapter with our shielded Gold Series 3.5 mm to Dual RCA cable for less than buying the two separately. 👉

⚠️ Important Information for International Buyers

This unit is configured for North American 110/120V power. Buyers outside North America will require a step-down transformer and appropriate plug adapter.
