Bowers & Wilkins WM2 Weatherproof Monitors in Pearl White, Brackets Included
A pair of Bowers & Wilkins weatherproof monitors in Pearl White, complete with their factory wall brackets, in a state of preservation that is genuinely uncommon on a speaker built to be left outside.
Condition
Start with the condition, because on this kind of speaker it is the whole story. Outdoor speakers are almost never retired for how they sound. They are retired for how they look: sun turns a white cabinet chalky and yellow, freeze-thaw works away at the seams, and grilles bloom with rust or mildew. Pearl White shows every one of those more plainly than black ever would. This pair grades Very Good, which on an outdoor speaker means somebody looked after them, and it is the difference between a set you are pleased to mount where guests can see it and a set you mount because it was cheap.
The Sound
The second reason to want them is that B&W did not design a weatherproof box and then find a driver to fit it. The bass and midrange unit is a 130 mm woven fibreglass cone, the same material philosophy the company applies to its indoor loudspeakers, crossed over at 3.5 kHz to a 25 mm dome. Sensitivity is 87 dB and the nominal impedance is 8 ohms, which is to say it will run happily off the B speaker terminals of any receiver you already own, without a dedicated amplifier and without a distribution box.
Built for Weather
Everything about the cabinet is built for the weather rather than the living room. The housing is a moulded polymer shell rather than veneered MDF, so it does not swell, split or delaminate when the humidity swings. Behind the grille, the port is angled so that rainwater cannot find its way into the enclosure while the port still does its acoustic job of extending the bass. The mounting hardware and fixings are specified throughout to resist corrosion, and the terminal caps screw down tight so there is nothing for wind to rattle.
The Bracket
The bracket is the part that gets overlooked until you go to buy a pair without them. Each speaker comes with its own B&W bracket, which carries both slots and keyhole fixings: the slots let you reposition slightly while you are getting the pair level, and the keyholes let you lift the speaker off the wall entirely at the end of the season or when you move. The bracket takes the speaker either horizontally or vertically, and the cable routes through a cut-out in the centre of the bracket so no wire is visible between the wall and the terminals. Once mounted, slackening the two knobs lets you swivel the speaker to aim it at where people actually sit, and then re-tighten by hand.
Radique’s Take
It is worth saying plainly that this is not only an outdoor speaker. A speaker engineered to shrug off humidity is the right answer in several rooms indoors where a conventional cabinet slowly fails: a bathroom, a kitchen, a workshop, a garage, a covered porch, a boat house or a finished basement that runs damp. At 9 inches tall and 6.6 lbs it mounts on a wall or sits on a shelf, and the same bracket does both jobs.
A properly engineered pair of outdoor speakers from a company that does not build many of them, in the finish most people are looking for, with the brackets still included and in condition that is the exception rather than the rule. JBL 62T Bookshelf Speakers – Rosewood Finish, Titanium Dome
Discounted for the aftermarket screw holes a previous owner left in the back panels, and very good everywhere else — original drivers, clean rosewood finish, both tested here. A mid-1980s two-way with a pure titanium tweeter that runs out to 23 kHz, and an easy 89 dB load that a thirty-watt vintage receiver drives properly.
Mission 731 Bookshelf — Made in England, Inverted Driver Design
Two things to tell you: a ding on the top side edge of one cabinet, and third-party binding posts a previous owner fitted to one speaker. Otherwise good — and the design is the interesting part, since Mission's inverted geometry puts the tweeter below the woofer to bring the two into step at seated ear height. Made in England.

JBL Northridge E30 2-Way 6″ Bookshelf Speakers – Bi-Wireable
Sixteen and a half pounds each, which is where the 50 Hz comes from — this is a full-size bookshelf, not a satellite in a bigger box. The 6-inch PolyPlas woofer is viscous polymer over a corrugated cellulose base, crossed at 4 kHz to a three-quarter-inch titanium-laminate dome through JBL's Straight-Line Signal Path network. Two sets of gold-plated 5-way posts, so bi-wireable. Very good condition.
Camber Laser 3 Bookshelf Speakers – Made in Ottawa, Canada
Built in Ottawa, a short drive from where they now sit. A 6.5-inch Audax mid-bass on a translucent polypropylene cone and a 1-inch dome with a centre diffusor, in light grey bezels against a dark cabinet. Two-way rear-ported, 8 ohms, 10 to 100 watts, spring clips on the back — give them room off the wall. Grilles included; very good condition.
Paradigm Monitor 3 v3 Bookshelf Speakers – 8″ Woofer, Canada
An 8-inch woofer in a cabinet small enough to sit on a stand — a 210 mm ICP cone on a die-cast chassis, with a third-generation titanium dome on the Studio-series waveguide faceplate, crossed at 2.0 kHz. Low frequency extension to 38 Hz and 91 dB room sensitivity, so 15 watts drives them and 150 is just headroom. Built in Canada, in Black Ash. Very good condition.

MartinLogan Motion 15 Bookshelf Speakers – Folded Motion, Boxed
The reason to want these is the tweeter — MartinLogan's Folded Motion driver is a pleated ribbon rather than a dome, so it squeezes air out from between its pleats and barely has to move. A 5.25-inch aluminium cone below it, 92 dB sensitivity, and the high-gloss black clean of the swirls these show so readily. Original boxes included.
