If you’ve ever wondered why live concerts often sound so much better than home listening, a major reason is ‘dynamic range’ -the ability of a performance to be, at one moment very soft, at the next, ear-shatteringly loud. It’s this variation or ‘dynamic range’ that gives the music its impact, its excitement, its life. The trick is to capture this dynamic range on your in-home speakers. This requires a loudspeaker of high efficiency, high power handling and exceptional accuracy. Enter Paisley:

Paisley’s exclusive ‘doped polyester’ tweeters are so efficient, they’ll go as loud with 20 watts of power as average tweeters do with 50. Plus, they’re ferrofluid cooled for long-life reliability, and of course deliver sweet smooth “highs”.

Equally efficient and accurate are Paisley’s exclusive polypropylene coned woofers. Polypropylene not only avoids the undesirable colourations of paper cones, it is also lighter and “faster” than bextrene, a common replacement for paper. Result -tighter, cleaner bass and smoother midrange. And, where a ten-inch woofer would have been the obvious upgrade from the eight-inch of the 2000, the 3000 instead uses two eight-inch woofers. This gives you the extra “speed” and accuracy of smaller woofers but the power and impact of big woofers.

Better efficiency and deeper bass are the acknowledged advantages of bass-reflex designs. So that’s what the Paisley Engineers have used.

MIRROR-IMAGED PAIRS
For improved frequency response, we position our drivers slightly off centre. Then, in spite of the higher cost of doing so, we “mirror-image” each speaker so you have a distinct “left channel” and “right channel” speaker, and great stereo-imaging.

VIRTUAL IMAGE WOOFER CONFIGURATION
In any loudspeaker, the best focus and image occur when all frequencies come from a single point. In most speakers, however, this is impossible since the tweeter and woofer can’t both be in the same place. Therefore, the image of the music may shift in space depending on whether the woofer or tweeter is generating the sound. For example, a given instrument, playing a low note, will seem to be coming from the woofer. As the notes played become higher however, the image may seem to move upward toward the tweeter. Such “image shift” is not only incorrect, it is bad for imaging and confusing to the listener. The Paisley Engineers have solved this problem by positioning the double woofers of the Model 3000 above and below the tweeter, creating the “Virtual Image”‘” of a woofer exactly halfway between them. Result – Extraordinary focus and superb imaging without the “image shift” of many conventional designs.
