Description

A slim Akai AA-1115 AM/FM stereo receiver from the late 1970s, in its original woodgrain cabinet. It has been tested on our bench and is in very good condition.

What it is

The AA-1115 was the compact model in Akai’s late-1970s silver receiver line, which Akai’s brochure called an “elegantly designed slim high fidelity stereo receiver.” It is rated at 15 watts per channel, minimum RMS into 8 ohms from 40 Hz to 20 kHz, with no more than 0.5% distortion: the right size for bookshelf speakers in a den, a bedroom or an office, where the silver face and woodgrain cabinet earn their place on a shelf as much as the sound does.

The tuner uses a phase-locked loop (PLL) stereo decoder for steady FM stereo, with a meter for FM center tuning and AM signal strength, and an FM muting switch. There is a moving-magnet phono stage for your turntable, an auxiliary input, and a tape monitor loop on both RCA and DIN connections, so a cassette deck from the same era plugs straight in. Bass and treble controls, a loudness switch and a headphone jack sit on the front, push buttons turn two pairs of speakers, A and B, on and off separately, and a switched AC outlet on the back can power a turntable or cassette deck.

The speaker terminals are spring clips, which take bare wire or pin connectors. Our own Radique Audio pin connectors are the natural match for a neat, secure fit, and our Custom Speaker Cable Builder will make you a pair to the exact length, terminated and ready to connect.

The cabinet is the woodgrain cabinet it left the factory in.

Add our RA-Twin II Bluetooth adapter to the auxiliary input and it plays from your phone, tablet or laptop as easily as from the dial.

The testing it has had

Tested on our bench before listing: every input, output and control, and the AM/FM tuner.

Condition

Very Good, and free of significant marks. The brushed faceplate and matching aluminum knobs present well, and the woodgrain cabinet is clean.

A slim Akai from the late 1970s, silver face and woodgrain cabinet, made for a den, a bedroom or a first vinyl system.

🔌 Speaker Cable and the Right Connector

The speaker terminals here are spring clips rather than binding posts, so banana plugs and spades will not fit — our own gold-plated pin connectors are the right answer, and they make connecting and disconnecting far easier than stripping bare wire every time. We also hand-build speaker cable here in any length you need, terminated to suit, on our Custom Speaker Cable Builder. 👉

⚠️ Important Information for International Buyers

This unit is configured for North American 110/120V power. Buyers outside North America will require a step-down transformer and appropriate plug adapter.
