Made in Japan, the Denon AVR-2700 is a well-built, great-sounding 5.1-channel AV surround receiver from 1999 — a product of Denon’s golden era of AVR engineering, when the company’s receivers were renowned for their musical character, strong build quality, and genuine two-channel performance alongside competent home theatre capability.
The AVR-2700 delivers a true 80 watts per channel to all five channels with equal power ratings — an honest, well-specified amplifier section that easily drives most home theatre and stereo speaker loads. The unit offers a comprehensive set of inputs including both coaxial and optical digital inputs for CD, DVD, and digital sources, along with a full complement of analog inputs, composite and S-video switching, and a dedicated phono stage for turntable users. Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic surround decoding cover the home theatre formats of the era, while a 5-channel stereo mode delivers enveloping sound from two-channel music sources.
A tape monitor loop is included, which can be used for adding an outboard EQ or signal processor into the playback chain — a welcome touch of flexibility for listeners who like to experiment.
