The NRC Pedigree
Energy has been designing loudspeakers since 1973, developing its lines in conjunction with Canada’s National Research Council — the same rigorous anechoic measurement discipline that has shaped the country’s most respected speaker brands. The CC-10 anchors the Connoisseur series introduced in 2008, and its centrepiece is Energy’s Convergent Source Module (CSM): the tweeter and woofers are mounted as close together as physically possible so they behave as a single source, widening dispersion and holding the sound consistent across a broad seating area rather than a narrow sweet spot.
Drivers and Surround
The dual 5.5-inch poly cone woofers use Energy’s patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround, a suspension design that permits greater cone excursion while lowering distortion — meaning more output and cleaner low frequencies than conventional surrounds allow. The 1-inch hyperbolic aluminum dome tweeter handles high frequencies with accuracy and real power handling. At 92 dB sensitivity with up to 200 watts of capability, the CC-10 plays effortlessly loud with any AV receiver, and the rear-ported bass-reflex cabinet gives soundtracks genuine weight down to 60 Hz. Allow a few inches of clearance behind the speaker so the port can breathe.
Build Quality
Build quality is evident throughout: a rigid, low-resonance MDF enclosure in black ash with a high-gloss black baffle, gold-plated five-way binding posts accepting bare wire, spades, or bananas, magnetic shielding for safe placement beside any screen, and a threaded insert for wall-mounting with an optional bracket. Owners rate it 4.7 out of 5 across two dozen reviews.
Condition and Service
This unit has been thoroughly inspected and tested to confirm full functionality. It has also been fitted with Radique Audio high-density felt pads in our signature magenta — they protect shelving and furniture surfaces, decouple the cabinet from whatever it sits on, and keep the speaker from walking during heavy passages.
Condition
Cosmetically graded Very Good, this speaker presents cleanly with its high-gloss baffle and black ash cabinet in fine order. The original grille is not included — worth noting that Energy designed this series to look, in the company’s own words, as attractive with the grilles on as off, the gloss baffle and silver drivers being a deliberate visual feature. Grille absence has no effect whatsoever on performance.

Two 5-inch OMF cone woofers either side of a 1-inch balanced dome, crossed at 4.5 kHz — well above where voices sit, so speech stays on one driver instead of being handed between two. Seventeen inches wide and 8.4 lbs, magnetically shielded, response 55 Hz to 50 kHz. From Onkyo's SKS-HT540 series, in the less common silver with a matching grille. Graded Good.
Yamaha NS-C90 Center Speaker – Dual-Angle Tilt, Made in Japan
The cabinet is asymmetrical on purpose: flip it over and it tilts the other way, aiming up at you from a low shelf or down at you from the top of a cabinet. Sealed rather than ported, so it needs no rear clearance. Two full-range drivers, nothing crossing in the vocal band. 6 ohms, 50 watts nominal. Built in Japan; very good condition.
Paradigm Reference LCR-450 — Made in Canada, High Gloss Black
A Canadian-built Reference monitor in a high gloss black we have not had this model in before — the line of this era usually turns up in black, light cherry or dark rosenut. Sealed MTM design with Paradigm's pure-aluminium dome tweeter, and it works as a centre or as a left or right. Excellent, with its original box.
