Harman Kardon DC5300 Dual Cassette Deck – Serviced, Japan

A Japanese-built Harman Kardon dual cassette deck from the early nineties, serviced on our bench and in very good condition.

What it is

The DC5300 gives you two auto-reverse transports in one chassis, so you can play a stack of tapes without flipping them, or copy from one well to the other to make fresh copies of your favourite mixtapes and preserve the ones that matter. Copying runs at normal or high speed, and Sync Reverse and Edit functions make dubbing whole tapes straightforward. Dolby B and C noise reduction keep tape hiss down on both older and newer recordings, and it handles normal, chrome and metal tape, reaching out to 18 kHz on metal.

Recording is properly controlled. Alongside the input level and input balance controls sits a Bias Fine Trim, which lets you tune the deck to the tape you are using, from a touch of high-frequency cut to a touch of boost. There is a record mute for clean gaps between songs, an MPX filter for taping from FM radio, and a tape counter with memory to take you back to a marked spot. On the back, RCA inputs and outputs connect it to any amplifier or receiver, and remote in and out jacks link it to a compatible Harman Kardon system. It was designed by Harman Kardon of Northridge, California, and built in Japan.
