The VSX-D511 puts out 100 watts per channel across all five channels at 8Ω, giving it 500 watts of total system power — plenty of headroom to drive a full 5.1 speaker set with authority in a typical living room or home theatre setup. Onboard decoding covers Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II, along with Pioneer’s Virtual Surround Back processing for approximating rear-channel effects when a full 5.1 speaker layout isn’t practical, and a Midnight Mode that compresses dynamic range for quieter late-night listening without losing intelligibility. A 96kHz/24-bit DAC handles digital-to-analog conversion for clean, detailed sound from digital sources.

Connectivity is well-rounded for a receiver of this class: one coaxial and one optical digital input allow you to feed the receiver’s surround decoding directly from a DVD player, cable box, or other digital source, while three composite/S-Video inputs and two S-Video outputs cover analog video switching needs. A dedicated subwoofer pre-out lets you add powered low-frequency extension to round out the system, and the built-in AM/FM tuner offers 30 station presets for radio listening.
