The RTi4 represents a significant evolution of Polk’s best-selling bookshelf line. Stereophile praised the design for its open, neutral midrange and pristine, extended high-frequency response — a testament to Polk’s Dynamic Balance driver technology, which uses laser interferometry to identify and eliminate resonance-inducing distortion across the entire cone surface. The 5.25-inch polymer composite woofer and redesigned 1-inch silk/polymer dome tweeter deliver a remarkably smooth, detailed sound that rewards careful listening with well-recorded material.

Two proprietary Polk bass technologies work in concert to extend low-frequency performance well beyond what the compact cabinet size would suggest. The rear-firing Power Port replaces a conventional bass port with a specially shaped diffuser cone that smooths turbulent airflow, reducing port noise and delivering cleaner, deeper bass. The ARC (Acoustic Resonance Control) port further refines midrange clarity by reducing internal standing waves. The result is surprisingly full, natural sound down to 50 Hz — impressive for a bookshelf speaker of this size.

The cabinet itself reflects serious attention to detail. Real black oak wood veneer over 3/4-inch MDF with extensive internal bracing virtually eliminates sound-muddying cabinet resonance. Dual gold-plated 5-way binding posts allow for bi-amping or bi-wiring, and an integrated keyhole slot enables wall mounting.
