Award-winning carousel changer recognized as a “Best Buy” CD player in Consumer Buying Guide 1997, combining practical multi-disc convenience with Sony’s acclaimed Hybrid Pulse digital-to-analog converter technology. Manufactured in the mid-1990s during Sony’s peak CD player innovation, the CDP-CE305 delivers smooth, musical playback from five discs without the mechanical complexity of magazine-style loaders.
The carousel mechanism loads up to five standard CDs or CDR discs into individual compartments, enabling seamless disc switching while one continues playing. This unit has been thoroughly tested and verified: all carousel positions rotate smoothly, disc loading and detection function reliably, playback initiates without hesitation, and front-panel controls respond accurately. Cosmetically, this player presents in good condition with clean front panel, functional display window, and normal signs of age appropriate for a nearly 30-year-old component.
The defining feature is Sony’s Hybrid Pulse 1-bit digital conversion system, which employs multi-stage noise shaping and oversampling to eliminate conventional brick-wall low-pass filtering. The result is a notably smooth, analog-like sound signature free from the digital harshness that characterized many budget players of this era — performance that earned the CDP-CE305 its “Best Buy” recognition. The signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 102dB, with frequency response spanning 2Hz to 20kHz and dynamic range surpassing 98dB—impressive specifications for a carousel changer at any price point.
Front-panel operation is straightforward: dedicated buttons for play, pause, stop, disc skip, and direct disc access (DISC 1–5), with a clear fluorescent display showing disc position, track number, and elapsed time. The numeric keypad enables quick track selection across all five discs. Playback modes include continuous all-disc play, single-disc repeat, shuffle play, and program mode (up to 32 custom selections). The carousel’s exchange-during-play feature allows disc replacement while music continues uninterrupted—invaluable for parties or extended listening sessions.
A repurposed Sony AVR remote is included, offering functional CD control: play, pause, stop, track skip, and disc selection all operate reliably. This remote originally served an AV receiver but includes built-in CD transport controls that work perfectly with this player. The remote does not control power on/off (requiring front-panel power button use), and some AVR-specific buttons are non-functional, but all essential playback functions respond accurately from across the room. At 5.6 kg (12 lbs 6 oz), the CDP-CE305 reflects solid mid-1990s Sony engineering: robust metal chassis, quality power supply, and dependable disc transport mechanism proven reliable across thousands of units in the field.

Technics SL-PD6 5-Disc CD Changer, MASH DAC, Optical Out
A 1999 five-disc carousel from the end of the Technics CD era, made in Japan — four discs swap out while the fifth keeps playing. MASH 1-bit conversion, 0.007% distortion, 100 dB signal-to-noise, fixed 2 V RCA output and a Toslink optical out. Headphone jack with its own level control up front. All five positions tested and CD-R playback confirmed; a compatible non-original remote is included. Good cosmetic condition.
Sony CDP-C260Z 5-Disc Carousel CD Changer w/ Optical Out
Five discs on a carousel, and Disc Ex-Change lets you swap four of the trays while the fifth keeps playing. This one has confirmed CD-R playback, which a good number of changers this age simply cannot manage. High Density Linear Converter D/A inside, and an optical digital output if you would rather use your own converter. Good cosmetic condition; Level 1 serviced here.

Sony CDP-CE375 5-Disc CD Changer — Optical Out | Play & Exchange
A five-disc carousel using Sony's Play 1/Exchange 4 mechanism — you can swap four discs while the fifth keeps playing. Hybrid Pulse D/A conversion, 0.0045% distortion, better than 102 dB signal-to-noise, and a Toslink optical output for an outboard DAC or receiver. Reads CD-R and CD-RW. A third-party universal remote comes with it, covering the key functions but not all of the original ones.
Yamaha CDC-902 5-Disc CD Changer – Original Remote, Plays CD-R
Near the top of Yamaha's Natural Sound carousel range, and the numbers say so — 106dB signal to noise, 96dB dynamic range, 0.003% distortion. The line output is variable from the remote, so it can drive a power amp directly in a simple system. It reads CD-Rs, which Yamaha never claimed for this generation; we verified that here. Original remote. Cosmetically graded Good.
NAD T572 5-Disc CD Changer – HDCD Decoder, Coax & Optical Out
Five discs at once with an HDCD decoder on board — High Definition Compatible Digital folds roughly twenty bits of range into an ordinary sixteen-bit CD, and most players never had the decoder to read it. The carousel reloads four while the fifth keeps playing, which the cheaper T571 could not do. Coaxial and optical digital out, original NAD remote. Very good condition.
