This Harman Kardon 430 Twin Powered receiver represents one of vintage audio’s best-kept secrets and has undergone our very thorough Level Two service and testing which should ensure many more years of reliable performance ahead. Released in 1976 at the substantial price of $325 (equivalent to over $1,700 today), this remarkable receiver delivers 25 watts per channel through its revolutionary Twin Power design featuring completely separate power supplies for each channel.
The Twin Power architecture sets the 430 apart from every other receiver in its era, providing exceptional channel separation, superior dynamics, and the ability to drive demanding low-impedance speakers with authority that belies its modest wattage rating. This dual power supply configuration gives the 430 performance characteristics typically found only in much higher-powered separates, delivering outstanding clarity, detail, and musical involvement that has earned it legendary status among vintage audio enthusiasts.

Twenty-five watts a channel into 8 ohms from Sherwood's Certified Performance series — the range where Sherwood printed the measured figures for the individual unit rather than for the model. MM phono, noise filter, mute/mono, loudness and A/B speakers, behind a brushed aluminium face with walnut-grain side panels. Level 2 serviced here: bias and DC offset set, every control deoxidised.
JVC JR-S201 Receiver – 35 WPC, Japan, SEA EQ, Excellent
Thirty-five watts a channel at 0.01% distortion with a damping factor of 70 — numbers most larger receivers of 1978 could not reach. A five-band S.E.A. graphic equalizer sits on the front panel at 40, 250, 1k, 5k and 15kHz, alongside MM phono, two tape loops and push-button speaker terminals. Made in Japan, arrived professionally serviced; cosmetically graded Excellent.
Pioneer SX-50 Silver Face Receiver – 50 WPC, Pre-Outs, 1983
Fifty watts a channel into 8 ohms at 0.007% distortion, and — unusually for a receiver this size — pre-out and main-in jacks on the back, so it can feed a subwoofer, take an equalizer in the loop, or hand off to a larger power amp. Introduced in 1983 with switchable CD and TV audio inputs, presets held by three AA cells, and the silver face of the decade that was ending. Graded Very Good.
