Totem Claw Isolation Feet — The Factory Fitment on Totem’s Own Floorstanders, as a Complete Set of Six

Decoupling, Not Coupling

Almost every floorstanding loudspeaker ships with spikes, and the logic behind spikes is coupling — drive a hard point into the floor so the cabinet cannot move, and let the floor absorb what the cabinet gives it. Totem took the opposite view. Rather than couple the speaker to the room, the Claw decouples it. The foot is machined from solid aluminium into a geometric shape whose whole purpose is to break up the standing waves that form across a floor surface and to control the resonance that a cabinet otherwise hands straight to the boards underneath it.

Where Spikes Do Not Work

The practical consequence is that it works on surfaces where spikes do not. Spikes want carpet and a subfloor. A Claw sits on hardwood, tile, laminate or concrete without needing to bite into anything, and without leaving the four small craters that a set of spikes leaves in a floor you care about. A ball bearing can be introduced between the Claw and the surface to take the decoupling further, or left out, depending on what the speaker is standing on.

Totem’s Own Fitment

These are not an aftermarket accessory dreamed up by a third party. The Claw is what Totem themselves fit to the Forest, three per speaker, and to the Wind — the same part, from the same machine shop, that ships inside their own boxes. A set of six is the standard pack and does one pair of speakers, three per cabinet, arranged as a triangle. Three points cannot rock, which is why a tripod sits still on a floor that a four-legged table wobbles on.

No Threaded Insert Required

The mounting is where these separate themselves from most of the isolation market. Almost every competing foot needs a threaded insert already in the speaker — a quarter-inch or metric socket the manufacturer put there for spikes — and if your cabinet does not have one, those products are simply not an option. The Claw comes with self-tapping screws and fixes directly into the base, so it goes under speakers that were never drilled for anything. That opens up a great many cabinets with no upgrade path at all, including plenty that never shipped with spikes. It does mean the fitting is permanent, which is a decision worth making once and making deliberately.

A Complete Set

This is a complete set: six Claws machined from solid aluminium in silver, with their self-tapping screws and the full complement of ball bearings. Sets turn up missing their hardware often enough that it is worth saying.
