A Yamaha YP-211 belt-drive turntable from the late 1970s, made in Japan, fitted with a Shure cartridge, tested on our bench and in very good condition.
What it is
The YP-211 is a semi-automatic belt-drive turntable from Yamaha’s Natural Sound era. A 4-pole synchronous motor drives a 300 mm die-cast aluminum platter through a belt, which keeps wow and flutter low, and it plays 33⅓ and 45 rpm.
It is simple to use. You lower the arm onto the record with the oil-damped cueing lever, and at the end of a side the arm lifts and returns to its rest by itself, then the motor switches off.
The tonearm is an S-shaped, statically balanced arm with an inside-force canceller (anti-skating), and it takes cartridges from 5 to 11 g. This one is fitted with a Shure cartridge. Its signal leads have a spade-terminated ground wire, so it connects cleanly to the phono input and ground post on any receiver or amplifier with a standard MM phono stage.
The service it has had
Tested on our bench, including the auto-return.
Condition
Very Good, and free of significant marks. The slim cabinet presents well, and the hinged dust cover sits and holds properly on good hinges.
A Japanese-built Yamaha with a Shure on the arm and auto-return that works as it should, ready for your records.
