Description

Technics SL-220 Frequency Generator Servo Turntable – Serviced, New Belt & Cartridge (No Dust Cover)

Get the classic Technics look and performance without the high price tag with this Technics SL-220—a reliable, belt-drive workhorse from the late 1970s. While often overshadowed by its direct-drive cousins, the SL-220 is a “sleeper” hit among vintage enthusiasts for its excellent S-shaped tonearm and stable DC servo motor. This unit has been extensively serviced to correct common age-related issues, bringing it back to smooth, reliable operation. Please note: This unit does not include a dust cover, making it an ideal candidate for placement in a cabinet, shelf system, or for DJ-style open-air use.

Extensive Restoration & Service:
We’ve breathed new life into this classic deck with over $120 in service and parts:

Tonearm Repair & Setup: The tonearm has been professionally repaired and reconnected, resolving tracking issues. A replacement headshell has been fitted at no extra charge.

Speed Control Service: The pitch control potentiometers (speed pods) have been deep-cleaned and deoxidized, curing the “speed drift” these models are known for. Speed is now rock-steady.

New Drive Belt: A fresh, correct-tension belt ensures accurate rotation and quick start-up.

New Cartridge: Fitted with a brand new Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge and stylus, offering punchy, reliable sound right out of the gate.

Cosmetic Detail: The platter rim has been sanded and polished to a mirror shine, removing years of oxidation.

Reliable Belt-Drive Performance:
The SL-220 uses a Frequency Generator (FG) Servo DC Motor, a technology borrowed from higher-end models to monitor and correct speed instantly. This results in low wow & flutter (0.045%) that rivals many direct drives. The static-balanced S-shaped tonearm provides excellent tracking and is gentle on your vinyl.

Features:

Semi-Automatic Operation: Auto-return mechanism lifts and returns the arm at the end of the record.

Front-Panel Controls: Speed, pitch, and cut controls are laid out in the classic Technics arrangement.

Stroboscope: Illuminated strobe mirror for easy visual speed verification.

Universal Headshell: Standard SME-type connection allows for easy cartridge swapping.
