The Heresy has for decades garnered a storied reputation among high-end audio enthusiasts. Made by hand in the US, this is a true high fidelity loudspeaker system.
The history of the Klipsch Heresy is rich. It was originally introduced in ’57 as a center channel speaker to go between two Klipschorns in larger rooms. When Paul Klipsch came up with the idea and the design, people told him he couldn’t do it, that it was acoustic heresy. “The hell I can’t,” he said, “and that’s exactly what I’m going to call it.” The resulting Heresy was a 3-way, acoustic suspension (sealed) design with a horn tweeter, horn midrange, and a 12” accordion surround woofer.
The Heresy’s will bring out things in recordings you just won’t hear with other speakers. There are details, subtleties, and elements that they bring out in the soundstage that are unique to only them. Speaking of soundstage, when properly placed, they have amazing imaging that is very tough to duplicate.
The voice (flavor) of the Heresy is absolutely a very forward one. There is no mistaking the horn-loaded sound. Yet, the acoustic suspension (some have argued infinite baffle) design does make the bass a bit more subtle and tight than many other Klipsch offerings.
From Klipsch:
“Quality sound system for theaters, homes, and nightclubs; monitor for recording and broadcast studios; or other professional or serious amateur use where faithful reproduction is demanded.
The Klipsch Heresy Loudspeaker is a high-efficiency, low-distortion system covering a wide range of frequencies with an unusually smooth response. Bass range extends solidly from 50 Hz, usable to 45.
This loudspeaker affords the same smoothness of response as the Klipschorn, but the bass cutoff is approximately 20 Hz higher. Horn-loaded throughout its treble spectrum, it maintains low diaphragm amplitudes and velocities necessary for low modulation distortion. The resulting clarity, a feature of all our speakers, even at the volume levels required for auditorium use, is typical of this highest level of quality.”

Pricing: As with many classic vintage speakers, the pricing for the Heresy’s is all-over the map. One reviewer mentioned a garage-sale find at just $15 (wow!) High water mark that we could find is a beautiful fully customized pair in high gloss orange (very cool) at $5K USD (about $6770 Cnd). Our pair has been beautifully refinished in solid cherry veneer. Grills have been freshly re-clothed, and we special ordered replica Klipsch “Laser” badges to complete the look. We made the conscious decision to leave the back panels original so as to not cover the original labels. They are not sequentially numbered, but they are a beautiful pair, and they sound fantastic, with all drivers doing their jobs perfectly. They also look fantastic on our Radique Audio Hand-Crafted 14″ Cherry Finished Speakers stands (sold separately).
