A dependable dual-deck workhorse from 1986, the Technics RS-T16 offers straightforward record and playback functionality with solid build quality typical of Technics’ era. Both decks operate independently, making it ideal for transferring between tapes, creating cassette copies, or recording from turntables and other sources. This good condition unit has undergone our Level One service and testing with thorough mechanical attention—head cleaning, capstan maintenance, complete lubrication, and belt replacement—which should ensure many more years of reliable performance ahead.
The RS-T16 features dual parallel tape paths with independent transport controls for each deck. Both support standard tape types—Type I (normal), Type II (CrO2), and Type IV (Metal) tape—with automatic EQ/bias selection. Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction circuits help control tape hiss on both playback and recording. Electronic speed control maintains stable tape speed, and dual VU meters provide visual feedback for setting optimal recording levels. Front-loading design with illuminated transport controls keeps operation straightforward.

Braun Atelier C1 Slim Cassette Deck — Motorized Drawer, Japan
70 mm tall, almost exactly the height of a cassette case, and that is not a coincidence. The tape does not stand upright behind a door the way it does in every Japanese deck of the era — it lies flat and is drawn in horizontally on a motorised tray, the mechanism disappearing into a slot barely thicker than the cassette itself. The C1 arrived in 1980, two years before a CD player made that gesture familiar. Built for Braun in Japan, the matching deck to the Atelier A1 and T1. Good condition.
