Made in Japan, the Technics SU-V76 is a 1987-era “New Class A” integrated amplifier that has earned a reputation as a genuine sleeper among budget audiophiles — delivering 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms with Technics’ proprietary Class A biasing topology, which operates in pure Class A at lower power levels before seamlessly transitioning to Class A/B at higher output. The result is the warmth and musicality of Class A listening at everyday volumes, with the headroom and authority of a full 200-watt system when the music demands it.

The SU-V76’s power supply and output stage are built to punch above its price class. Large, heavily finned heat sinks handle thermal management passively — no fan noise to intrude on your listening — and the amplifier runs warm by design, a hallmark of its Class A bias current. At idle, the unit draws approximately 30 watts from the wall, confirming that meaningful Class A bias is present and working, not just a marketing label.

Inputs are comprehensive for a late-80s integrated: a moving magnet phono stage for turntable connection, plus tuner, auxiliary, and two tape loop inputs cover all analogue-era sources. Bass, treble, and balance controls are provided, along with speaker A/B switching for running two pairs of speakers. A full-sized headphone jack on the front panel rounds out the feature set.
