Ultra-Rare Vintage Dual SoundSphere Omnidirectional Speaker

This is an incredibly rare “Double SoundSphere” omnidirectional speaker, an expanded tandem design originating from SoundSphere’s early golden era of commercial PA manufacturing. While standard vintage SoundSpheres are legendary for filling massive spaces with a single 12-inch woofer and reflector, this behemoth features a dual-reflector, dual-woofer design paired with an expanded six-tweeter array.

Engineered to project immense, 360-degree, full-frequency sound across arenas, gymnasiums, and large public spaces, this dual-configuration delivers substantially higher output and deeper presence than the standard models. It is a visually striking, space-age showpiece that operates as a true acoustic powerhouse. Due to the extreme rarity of this dual-reflector build, it is a museum-grade find for vintage PA collectors and audio enthusiasts looking for a highly efficient, room-owning centerpiece.

What it is

Each of our SoundSphere 2212-1s fires one 12-inch driver into one reflector. The 2212-2 has two: one 12-inch woofer fires into a reflector above the sphere and a second fires into a reflector below it, and six 3½-inch piezoelectric tweeters set around the sphere spread the highs. Hung from its eyebolt, it sends sound out through 360 degrees, upward as well as down, so there is no sweet spot to sit in. It is rated for 400 watts RMS into 4 ohms, so pair it with an amplifier that is comfortable at 4 ohms. The input is a 1/4-inch phone jack, as on the 2212-1, and connects to any standard amplifier or receiver with a dual banana plug to 1/4-inch adapter.

When it is set down instead of hung, as in our photographs, Radique Audio High Density Felt pads in our signature Magenta on the back of each reflector protect your floor.

The testing it has had

Tested on our bench before listing: both woofers and all six tweeters.

Condition

Good, with wear from use. The white gloss sphere shows scuffs and marks, and the textured backs of both reflectors, the sides that face outward when it hangs, show marks from use. The eyebolt and quick link it hangs from are fitted.
