Description

Denon DRA-435R Stereo Receiver 55 WPC w/ Phono — Japan, With Remote

A refined, Japanese-made stereo receiver from Denon’s early 1990s lineup, delivering 55 watts per channel of clean power with a full complement of analog inputs including a moving magnet phono stage. Made in Japan.

The DRA-435R exemplifies Denon’s Design Integrity philosophy — even in their mid-range receivers, sound quality came first. Manufactured by Nippon Columbia Co., Ltd. from 1991 to 1993, this receiver delivers 55 watts per channel into 8 ohms with just 0.05% total harmonic distortion, and frequency response extends from 20 Hz to an impressive 50 kHz. AudioKarma enthusiasts note that these early 1990s Denon receivers consistently deliver more power than their specifications suggest — a hallmark of conservative Denon engineering.

The quartz-synthesized AM/FM tuner provides stable, drift-free reception with excellent FM sensitivity at 0.8 µV. Analog inputs cover Phono (MM, 2.5 mV / 47 kohm), CD, Video, Tape-1, and Tape-2/VCR, with tape recording outputs for both tape loops. The tape monitor loops can serve as insert points for an external equalizer or signal processor. A preamplifier output allows connection of an external power amplifier for system expansion. Composite video switching is provided via dedicated monitor, video, and VCR inputs and outputs.

The moving magnet phono stage offers 2.5 mV sensitivity with 47 kohm input impedance and a 78 dB signal-to-noise ratio — a capable, quiet phono section for vinyl playback. Line-level signal-to-noise ratio is an excellent 95 dB.

Dual speaker outputs with front-panel A/B switching allow two pairs of speakers to be connected, with impedance ratings of 6-16 ohms per speaker for A or B individually, or 12-16 ohms when both pairs are driven simultaneously. One switched AC outlet (120W/1A max) and one unswitched outlet (240W) on the rear panel provide convenient power for ancillary components.

The front panel features Denon’s signature rotary controls for volume, bass, treble, and balance — tactile, smooth, and satisfying to use. The compact chassis at just 120mm tall fits easily into tight shelf spaces.

Includes the original Denon remote control for full wireless operation of all primary functions.
