Compact Canadian-made Athena AS-B1 bookshelf speakers delivering articulate highs, extended bass, and surprising dynamics from a small footprint, in very good condition.
The Athena AS-B1 is a two-way bass-reflex bookshelf speaker designed and manufactured in Canada by Athena Technologies, a company founded by former API Energy engineers known for producing high-value speakers with genuine audiophile performance. Despite its compact dimensions, the AS-B1 uses a carefully tuned rear port and well-matched drivers to deliver extended bass response that belies its modest size. The 5.25-inch injection-molded polypropylene woofer with rubber surround provides tight, controlled bass and articulate midrange, while the 1-inch Teteron dome tweeter delivers smooth, detailed highs with excellent dispersion and low distortion. At 90 dB typical room sensitivity, these speakers are easy to drive with a wide range of integrated amplifiers and receivers, making them well suited to both modest and higher-powered systems. This pair is in very good cosmetic condition and has been tested.
Magnetically shielded drivers allow placement near CRT monitors or other sensitive equipment without causing interference, though this feature remains useful today for reducing stray magnetic fields near turntables or other analog components. Gold-plated 5-way binding posts accept audiophile-grade speaker cable up to 12 gauge, standard banana plugs, spade connectors, or bare wire, providing flexible connection options for any system. The reason to want these is the tweeter — MartinLogan's Folded Motion driver is a pleated ribbon rather than a dome, so it squeezes air out from between its pleats and barely has to move. A 5.25-inch aluminium cone below it, 92 dB sensitivity, and the high-gloss black clean of the swirls these show so readily. Original boxes included.

Two things to tell you: a ding on the top side edge of one cabinet, and third-party binding posts a previous owner fitted to one speaker. Otherwise good — and the design is the interesting part, since Mission's inverted geometry puts the tweeter below the woofer to bring the two into step at seated ear height. Made in England.
Bowers & Wilkins WM2 Outdoor Speakers, Pearl White, w/ Brackets
On an outdoor speaker the condition is the whole story — these are almost never retired for how they sound, but for sun turning a white cabinet chalky and yellow, freeze-thaw working at the seams, and grilles blooming with rust. Pearl White shows all of it more plainly than black would, and this pair grades Very Good, factory wall brackets included. B&W did not design a weatherproof box and then find a driver to fit it either: a 130 mm woven fibreglass cone crossed at 3.5 kHz to a 25 mm dome, the same material philosophy as their indoor speakers.
