Description

The MS satellite is a 2-way bass reflex design that is magnetically shielded to prevent magnetic interference with your TV. The MS speaker was engineered to provide serious sound quality, not just to provide a small, lifestyle product. The 3-1/2″woofer features a huge 9 oz magnet structure and a rubber surround for high power handling and high excursion. The speaker is vented for added bass response and lower bass extension. The tweeter is based upon the award winning Teteron tweeter in the Athena AUDITION and SCT series. It provides incredibly clear and accurate high frequencies, that will accurately recreate music and movie soundtracks, whether in 2 channel or multi channel.

Athena Technologies was launched in the late 1990s by Audio Products International of Toronto, the company behind Energy and Mirage, first for sale through Best Buy. We carry Athena bookshelf speakers, centre channels, subwoofers and speaker stands. We've had more than 70 Athena listings so far. Every used Athena here is inspected, tested and serviced as required, then photographed in-house and covered by our Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty and Perpetual Trade-Back Program. Don't see the model you want? Tell us on First Dibs and we'll email you when one arrives.

Our best-selling Athena models so far: the S.5 bookshelf speakers, then the C.5 centre channel, the P.5 subwoofer, the AS-P4000 subwoofer and the AS-B1 bookshelf speakers.

The Athena story

Athena Technologies was a brand of Audio Products International (API) of Scarborough, Ontario, the Toronto-area maker of Energy and Mirage speakers. API added Athena in the late 1990s and built it for the Best Buy chain in the US. An API executive recalls that the first order put Athena into more than 500 stores.

Klipsch. In 2006 Klipsch bought API, naming Mirage, Energy and Athena Technologies among its brands, and said their design and engineering would stay separate. By the time Audiovox (later VOXX) bought Klipsch in 2011, Athena was no longer among the brands it listed.

Not the NRC's Athena. The brand is not the same thing as the National Research Council's Athena project, a loudspeaker research program here in Ottawa that API and other Canadian makers took part in.

Which Athena is which?

Point 5 family: the S.5 bookshelf speakers, the C.5 centre and the P.5 subwoofer, and a later Point 5 MKII.

AS series: such as the AS-B1 and AS-B1.2 bookshelf speakers and the AS-P300 and AS-P4000 subwoofers.

Stands and mounts: Athena also sold speaker stands and wall mounts.
