Crafted in Japan during Luxman’s golden era (1983-1987), the C-02 preamplifier represents the pinnacle of analog audio engineering with its renowned Duo-Beta Circuit/S technology integrated into a single-stage amplification system for exceptionally pure sound reproduction. The C-02 features a remarkable phono section, widely praised for its exceptional handling of both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges. The built-in step-up transformer utilizes non-oxidized copper wires and offers selectable impedance settings (50, 100, 300 ohms) for MC cartridges, allowing precise matching with virtually any phono setup. The innovative “Phono Straight” feature bypasses all tone controls for the purest possible signal path when enjoying vinyl.
Luxman’s engineering excellence shines through with the implementation of genuine Class A operation that eliminates crossover distortion, while the unique bias circuit employs LEDs instead of conventional diodes to provide remarkably fast attack and decay characteristics. Rotel called this a stereo control amplifier rather than a preamp, and it earns the name — no tone controls, no filters, no loudness, just four line inputs and two tape loops with dubbing either way. The phono stage runs moving magnet and moving coil through separate buffers, and line distortion is no greater than 0.004%. Stamped Tokyo, Japan on the rear panel. Excellent cosmetic condition.

The control amplifier from Sony's short-lived Falcon range — made in Japan for barely two years and rarely seen on this side of the Pacific. Bronze-anodised aluminium case, a real moving-coil phono input alongside moving-magnet, and a signal path that has been freshly recapped. A couple of light marks on the casework, otherwise Very Good.
