Description

Onkyo CP-1010A Auto-Return Turntable – Serviced, New Belt & Stylus, Polished Dust Cover

Experience the understated quality of the Onkyo CP-1010A—a classic belt-drive turntable from the early 1980s that proves simplicity is often the key to reliability. This unit has been thoroughly serviced and restored, addressing all the common age-related issues (bad belts, sluggish mechanisms) to return it to factory-fresh performance. Fitted with a brand new Audio-Technica cartridge and sporting a professionally polished dust cover, it’s a turnkey vintage deck that looks as good as it sounds.

Comprehensive Service & Restoration:
We’ve invested in extensive bench work to ensure this turntable is ready for another 40 years of service:

Mechanism Overhaul: The sluggish tonearm return mechanism has been completely disassembled, cleaned of old sticky grease, and relubricated with modern synthetic greases. The auto-return now cycles smoothly and reliably.

New Drive Belt: A fresh precision-ground belt has been installed, resolving previous speed inconsistencies and restoring rock-steady pitch.

New Cartridge: Fitted with a brand new Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge and stylus—a perfect match for this arm, offering balanced, punchy sound and widely available replacement styli.

Dust Cover Restoration: The original dust cover has been professionally polished to remove years of haze and surface scratches, presenting a clear, clean window to the spinning record.

Spade added to ground cable for easier use.

Simple, Reliable Design:
The CP-1010A features a low-mass straight tonearm designed to track warped records better than heavier S-shaped arms of the previous decade. The DC servo motor provides quiet, consistent rotation, while the floating suspension helps isolate the platter from footfalls and vibration.

Features & Specifications:

Auto-Return Convenience: The tonearm automatically lifts and returns to rest at the end of the record—perfect for relaxed listening.

Up-Front Controls: Speed, cut (reject), and cueing controls are accessible even with the dust cover closed.

Drive System: Belt Drive with DC Servo Motor

Speeds: 33⅓ and 45 RPM

Wow and Flutter: 0.05% WRMS

Platter: 310mm Aluminum Die-Cast

Cartridge: New Audio-Technica AT3600L

Dimensions: 418 x 132 x 374 mm

Weight: 4.0 kg

Made in: Japan (circa 1983)

Condition:
This turntable is in good cosmetic condition. The plinth is clean, and the silver/grey finish presents well.

Restored Dust Cover: Clear and bright, vastly improved from its original state.

Functionally Perfect: Speed is stable, cueing is gentle, and the auto-return works exactly as intended.

Summary:
Don’t gamble on an “as-is” turntable that likely needs a belt, a stylus, and a grease job. This Onkyo CP-1010A has had all that work done for you. It offers a hassle-free entry point into vintage vinyl with the reliability of a new machine and the character of a classic.

Onkyo was founded in Osaka in 1946 by Takeshi Godai as Osaka Denki Onkyo, and the name was shortened to Onkyo in 1971. We carry Onkyo AV receivers and stereo receivers, cassette decks and CD players. We've had more than 60 Onkyo listings so far, covering more than 50 different models. Every AV receiver we list is tested input by input on our bench: each HDMI input and output, the analog, optical and coaxial inputs, the subwoofer outputs and the wireless features where it has them. Every used Onkyo here is inspected, tested and serviced as required, then photographed in-house and covered by our Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty and Perpetual Trade-Back Program. Don't see the model you want? Tell us on First Dibs and we'll email you when one arrives.

The Onkyo models we've sold most often include the TX-SR313, TX-NR626 and TX-SR706 AV receivers.

The Onkyo story, 1946 to today

Takeshi Godai, who Onkyo says had headed Matsushita Electric's speaker factory, founded Osaka Denki Onkyo in Osaka in 1946. Stereophile translates the name as "Osaka Electric Sound Harmony", and the company shortened it to Onkyo in 1971.

Integra and home theatre. Onkyo's Integra amplifier line began in 1969, and by the 1990s, Stereophile says, Onkyo had become a well-regarded home theatre brand.

Pioneer joins. In March 2015 Onkyo took over Pioneer's home AV business, and both brands carried on under their own names.

New owners. In September 2021 the Onkyo and Integra brands passed to a joint venture of VOXX's Premium Audio Company and Sharp, which builds the products. The old Onkyo company in Japan filed for bankruptcy in May 2022, after the brands had been sold. Gentex bought VOXX in April 2025, and Onkyo says its research and development is still in Osaka.

Which Onkyo is which?

TX stereo receivers: a long run from the 1970s to today, such as the TX-830 of the late 1980s and the TX-8030 of 2011.

TX-SV and TX-DS home theatre receivers (1990s to about 2001): for example the TX-SV 454 and the TX-DS484.

TX-SR receivers (from 2002): such as the TX-SR502 (about 2004 to 2005) and the TX-SR706 (about 2008 to 2009).

TX-NR network receivers (2010s): with network and streaming features, such as the TX-NR626 (about 2013 to 2014).

TX-RZ receivers (from 2016): the newer flagships.

DX-C CD changers: from the DX-C210 of 1993 onward.
