A properly specified two-way centre channel in silver with matching grille, from Onkyo’s SKS-HT540 series.
Built for Dialogue
Dialogue is the job of a centre channel, and this one is built to do it rather than to hit a price. Two 5-inch OMF cone woofers flank a 1-inch balanced dome tweeter in a bass reflex cabinet, crossing over at 4.5 kHz — well above the range where voices live, so speech stays on one driver instead of being split across two. Frequency response runs from 55 Hz to 50 kHz, and the cabinet is magnetically shielded, which still matters if there is a CRT or an unshielded display anywhere near it.
Cabinet and Output
At 17 inches wide and 8.4 lbs it has real cabinet volume behind those drivers, and it will play considerably louder and cleaner than the small plastic centres bundled with most systems. If you already own Onkyo’s matching SKF-540F front speakers, this completes the timbre match exactly. If you don’t, it remains a sensible upgrade over an undersized centre, or a straight replacement for one that has failed.
The Silver Finish
The silver finish with matching silver-grey grille is the less common of the two Onkyo offered and looks considerably better alongside modern equipment than the black version does.
Connections
Connection is via colour-coded push-type terminals, taking bare wire or pin connectors — our Radique Audio Gold Plated Pin Connectors are an ideal match and make setup much simpler than stripping and twisting wire.
Condition
Cosmetically graded Good, with honest wear consistent with its age and nothing affecting performance. Thoroughly inspected and tested in-house and working perfectly.
A capable, well-made centre channel at a genuinely modest price — the easiest single upgrade for anyone running a system where the centre is the weak link.

Yamaha NS-C90 Center Speaker – Dual-Angle Tilt, Made in Japan
The cabinet is asymmetrical on purpose: flip it over and it tilts the other way, aiming up at you from a low shelf or down at you from the top of a cabinet. Sealed rather than ported, so it needs no rear clearance. Two full-range drivers, nothing crossing in the vocal band. 6 ohms, 50 watts nominal. Built in Japan; very good condition.
Paradigm Reference LCR-450 — Made in Canada, High Gloss Black
A Canadian-built Reference monitor in a high gloss black we have not had this model in before — the line of this era usually turns up in black, light cherry or dark rosenut. Sealed MTM design with Paradigm's pure-aluminium dome tweeter, and it works as a centre or as a left or right. Excellent, with its original box.
