The CDP-CE245 is one of Sony’s most refined consumer 5-disc carousel changers, produced in Japan around 2000 at the tail end of Sony’s golden CD-changer era. The headline convenience feature is “Disc Exchange” — the ability to swap up to four discs while the fifth continues to play, ensuring uninterrupted music for parties, dinner playlists, or long listening sessions. The mechanism on this unit has been tested across all five disc positions and is operating cleanly, with smooth tray rotation and reliable disc loading.
Sonically, the CDP-CE245 uses Sony’s Hybrid Pulse D/A converter — a design specifically engineered to minimise zero-cross distortion at very low signal levels, which is where conventional DAC architectures tend to struggle most audibly. The published numbers are excellent for a multi-disc changer: 102 dB signal-to-noise ratio, 2 V line output level fully compatible with any modern integrated amp or AV receiver, and a 2 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response.
A particularly useful feature for modern systems is the rear-panel optical digital output (TOSLINK), which allows the CDP-CE245 to bypass its internal DAC entirely and feed a clean digital signal directly to a modern external DAC, AV receiver, or DAC-equipped streamer. This effectively turns the CDP-CE245 into a high-quality 5-disc CD transport, letting the buyer take advantage of contemporary DAC technology while still enjoying the convenience of a multi-disc carousel. NAD T572 5-Disc CD Changer – HDCD Decoder, Coax & Optical Out
Five discs at once with an HDCD decoder on board — High Definition Compatible Digital folds roughly twenty bits of range into an ordinary sixteen-bit CD, and most players never had the decoder to read it. The carousel reloads four while the fifth keeps playing, which the cheaper T571 could not do. Coaxial and optical digital out, original NAD remote. Very good condition.
Technics SL-PD6 5-Disc CD Changer, MASH DAC, Optical Out
A 1999 five-disc carousel from the end of the Technics CD era, made in Japan — four discs swap out while the fifth keeps playing. MASH 1-bit conversion, 0.007% distortion, 100 dB signal-to-noise, fixed 2 V RCA output and a Toslink optical out. Headphone jack with its own level control up front. All five positions tested and CD-R playback confirmed; a compatible non-original remote is included. Good cosmetic condition.
Sony CDP-C260Z 5-Disc Carousel CD Changer w/ Optical Out
Five discs on a carousel, and Disc Ex-Change lets you swap four of the trays while the fifth keeps playing. This one has confirmed CD-R playback, which a good number of changers this age simply cannot manage. High Density Linear Converter D/A inside, and an optical digital output if you would rather use your own converter. Good cosmetic condition; Level 1 serviced here.
