Description

Pioneer CS-G301Q 12″ 3-Way Floor Speakers, Upgraded Drivers Assembled in Canada.

A handsome pair of late-1980s Pioneer CS-G301Q three-way floor-standing loudspeakers, Canadian-assembled, in good cosmetic condition with their warm simulated walnut woodgrain finish — and meaningfully upgraded under the hood with higher-quality replacement woofers and midrange drivers, plus serviced crossovers, for performance that genuinely surpasses the stock factory specification.

The CS-G301Q is the Canadian-market variant of Pioneer’s CS-G301 series — designed by Pioneer Electronic Corporation in Tokyo and assembled in Markham, Ontario by Pioneer Electronics of Canada. At a time when most major brands were already moving production entirely offshore, Pioneer’s Canadian assembly operation produced these substantial 12-inch three-way floorstanders for the domestic market, with the warm simulated walnut woodgrain vinyl finish that defined Pioneer’s hi-fi aesthetic of the era.

This particular pair has been upgraded by a previous owner with replacement woofers and midrange drivers that are noticeably heavier and built to a higher standard than the original Pioneer drivers — typically a sign of a meaningfully better motor structure and a more capable cone/surround assembly. The original tweeters have been retained, preserving the speaker’s familiar high-frequency character. The crossovers have also been serviced, refreshing the passive components and ensuring the network is operating to specification. The combined result is a speaker that, in our listening, plays with more bass authority, cleaner midrange, and better dynamic composure than the stock CS-G301Q ever managed when new — and at a price point that makes the upgrade work an exceptional value to the next owner.

The original 3,500 Hz and 7,000 Hz crossover points remain in place, preserving the intended driver hand-off, and the speakers retain their original removable cloth grilles (Pioneer part GRL-301P). The 30-pound cabinet, 12-inch bass driver, and 90 dB sensitivity make these an easy, room-filling match for vintage receivers and modern integrated amplifiers alike — comfortable from 20 watts up to the 150-watt maximum music power rating. The bass-reflex alignment delivers genuine reach down to 35 Hz, giving these speakers full-range capability without the need for a subwoofer in most rooms.
