Yamaha RX-A850 AVENTAGE 7.2 AVR 700W — 4K, Bluetooth, WiFi, Atmos, Phono
The Yamaha RX-A850 is an AVENTAGE-series 7.2-channel network AV receiver that delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms across all seven channels, with Dolby Atmos decoding and Burr-Brown 192kHz/24-bit DACs on all channels — a serious home theatre and music machine built to AVENTAGE’s elevated engineering standard.
What Hi-Fi praised the RX-A850 as a receiver that “should be taken very seriously,” noting its “powerful, precise sound” and “plenty of features” — with nothing negative to say at its price point.
The AVENTAGE designation is not just a marketing label — it denotes a physically superior build. The RX-A850 features Yamaha’s proprietary Anti-Resonance Technology (A.R.T.) Wedge, a specially shaped fifth foot mounted under the centre of the chassis that damps vibration from the power supply transformer, reducing microphonic interference and delivering a cleaner, more detailed sound. The chassis itself is a rigid, symmetrical design with discrete amplifier modules and a high-current power supply that delivers dynamic power of 130/170/195/240 watts per channel into 8/6/4/2 ohms respectively — ensuring effortless headroom during demanding film soundtracks and dynamic musical passages.
Dolby Atmos processing creates immersive, three-dimensional overhead sound effects from compatible content, while Yamaha’s Cinema DSP 3D with 17 selectable sound field programs brings spatial enhancement to stereo and legacy surround material. Dialogue Lift raises centre-channel dialogue to screen height without the need for dedicated presence speakers.
Connectivity is comprehensive and future-ready for its era: eight HDMI inputs (three HDCP 2.2 compatible for 4K content) and two HDMI outputs handle all current and legacy video sources with 4K/60p 4:4:4 pass-through and upscaling. Built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with AAC support, AirPlay, and Yamaha’s MusicCast multi-room platform cover every streaming scenario, while the Yamaha AV Controller app provides full smartphone control from iOS and Android devices. A dedicated moving magnet phono input welcomes turntable users, and a full 7.2-channel pre-out section allows integration with external amplification for even greater performance.
Zone 2 line output and a powered Zone 2 option allow independent audio in a second room, and RS-232C plus 12V trigger outputs support custom installation requirements.
This unit comes with a compatible Yamaha remote control, tested and confirmed to operate all primary functions (not the original remote). Tested and inspected by our team at Radique Audio.
