Designed and engineered by Anthem Electronics, the MRX 500 sits squarely at the point where serious home theatre meets genuine audiophile performance. Where most AV receivers of its era chased ever-higher channel counts and gimmick features, Anthem took the opposite approach: build fewer amplifier channels to a higher standard, fit them with serious power supplies and heat-sinking, and focus on delivering the cleanest, most musically natural sound possible. The result is a receiver with a notably refined sonic character that rewards careful listening with both movies and music.

The MRX 500 delivers 100 watts per channel in stereo into 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at just 0.1% THD, and 75 watts per channel with all seven channels driven — honest, FTC-method ratings that translate directly into real-world performance. All seven amplifier channels are discrete designs with generous heat-sinking, and the receiver handles the full range of high-resolution surround codecs including Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-ES Matrix and Discrete, and DTS 96/24.

Connectivity is comprehensive and flexible: four HDMI 1.4a inputs and one HDMI output (all 3D-capable), three component video inputs, multiple optical and coaxial digital audio inputs, seven pairs of high-quality speaker binding posts (with posts 6 and 7 assignable to surround back, front ceiling, or zone 2 duty), 2-zone operation, internet radio via built-in Ethernet, and USB inputs for playback from flash drives or external hard drives. Dual-zone capability allows audio to be sent to a second room independently of the main system.

This unit has undergone our Level One service and testing which should ensure many more years of reliable performance ahead. The MRX 500 is in very good cosmetic condition and includes the original Anthem remote control.
