The Pioneer SX-3600 — Classic Pioneer Sound, Original Walnut Side Panels
The Pioneer SX-3600 is one of the most rewarding mid-power receivers of the early 1980s — clean 30-watt power, the legendary Fluoroscan blue meters, and the brushed silver faceplate that defined the Golden Age of stereo. This unit has been fully tested and Level One serviced at Radique Audio, presented in its original walnut-finish side panels with that iconic early-80s Pioneer look.
Sound and Performance
30 watts per channel into 8 ohms (RMS) is plenty to drive efficient bookshelf or floorstanding speakers in any normal living room. The SX-3600’s direct-coupled output stage delivers a warm, musical presentation — tight bass, sweet midrange, and the slightly forward voice that vintage Pioneer is known for. Dual tape monitor loops, AUX, MM phono, and a front-panel headphone jack give you all the connectivity a vintage rig needs.
The Fluoroscan Display
Pioneer’s Fluoroscan blue power meters with peak-hold are one of the most iconic visual signatures of the era. Paired with the analog FM dial and center-channel tuning meter, this receiver lights up a listening room beautifully.
Original Walnut-Finish Side Panels
The SX-3600 wears its factory walnut-finish side panels — warm wood-grain tones that complement the brushed silver faceplate and look right at home alongside vintage furniture. A true period piece, presented as Pioneer intended.

Gold Plated Pin Connectors – Flexible Pins, Radique Audio
Made for spring clips and guillotine terminals, where bare wire frays and works loose. The pin flexes rather than sitting rigid, so it does not lever on a forty-year-old terminal, and two set screws hold the wire instead of one. Takes 12 to 18 AWG — 12 is a tight fit. Colour-coded non-conductive jackets and a textured grip. Sold in 1, 2, 4 or 10 pairs.

Twenty watts a channel into 8 ohms across the full 20 Hz to 20 kHz band, an MM phono input at 80 dB signal-to-noise, and a tape monitor loop. Sherwood built these in small runs in Chicago and sold them through the same shops that carried Marantz and McIntosh. Still in its original wood cabinet. Level 1 serviced here; condition Very Good.

Twenty-five watts a channel into 8 ohms from Sherwood's Certified Performance series — the range where Sherwood printed the measured figures for the individual unit rather than for the model. MM phono, noise filter, mute/mono, loudness and A/B speakers, behind a brushed aluminium face with walnut-grain side panels. Level 2 serviced here: bias and DC offset set, every control deoxidised.
JVC JR-S201 Receiver – 35 WPC, Japan, SEA EQ, Excellent
Thirty-five watts a channel at 0.01% distortion with a damping factor of 70 — numbers most larger receivers of 1978 could not reach. A five-band S.E.A. graphic equalizer sits on the front panel at 40, 250, 1k, 5k and 15kHz, alongside MM phono, two tape loops and push-button speaker terminals. Made in Japan, arrived professionally serviced; cosmetically graded Excellent.
