Description

Give your slim-chassis Marantz the cabinet it was designed to wear. Our WC-10 Style Cherrywood Cabinet is a new, purpose-built cabinet for the Marantz components that wore the original WC-10, from the 1060 and 1070 integrated amplifiers to the 112 tuner and the 2010 and 2015 receivers. It is handcrafted from genuine Ottawa Valley cherrywood veneer over an MDF core, hand-finished with boiled linseed oil and a beeswax polish, with a ventilated metal grill in the top, and needs no modifications to fit. The front edges are finished and hand-bevelled and the rear edges are fully finished, so it looks right from every angle.

What it is

Marantz sold its separates as bare chassis and let you buy the wood cabinet afterwards, which is why so many lovely 1060s, 1070s and 112s sit on a shelf looking half-finished. Original WC-10 cases turn up only now and then, and a clean one is hard to find after fifty years. So we built a new one, in cherry.

It fits the long list of slim-chassis Marantz components the WC-10 was made for: the 104, 105, 105-B, 110 and 112 tuners, the 1030, 1040, 1060 and 1070 integrated amplifiers, the 140, the 3200 preamplifier, the 2010 and 2015 receivers, and the 4060, 4070 and 4220. A bare Marantz chassis reads as equipment. The same chassis in a cherry cabinet reads as furniture.

Why cherrywood?

Cherry is one of the most prized hardwoods in North American furniture and cabinetry. Its warm grain deepens with age, and Ottawa Valley cherry finished naturally, without stains or synthetic coatings, darkens gradually into a richer, more lustrous colour over the years. Next to a Marantz’s silver faceplate, and the blue-lit dial on the tuners and receivers, it is a beautiful match.

Craftsmanship in every detail

Every cabinet begins with book-matched cherry veneer, cut to create a seamless waterfall grain pattern across the top and sides. The veneer is sanded to a silky 320-grit before a traditional boiled linseed oil finish is hand-applied and allowed to cure fully, bringing out the grain from within. A final coat of beeswax polish adds a warm, subtle lustre and lasting protection. It is made with care, not chemicals, and it will look even better in ten years than it does today.

The front edges are finished and hand-bevelled to frame your Marantz faceplate, and the rear edges are fully finished too, because the back of a cabinet should look as good as the front. A ventilated metal grill set into the top panel lets heat out, so your component runs as cool in the cabinet as it does bare.

Why an MDF core?

The core is MDF, the standard for stable cabinet construction. It does not warp, split or move with the seasons the way solid wood can, and it is dense and inert, so the cabinet adds nothing to the sound of your Marantz and takes nothing away.

Built for your Marantz

Installation takes minutes and needs no modifications. Remove your component’s original feet with a Phillips screwdriver, slide the cabinet on, then refit the original feet using the longer screws included with the cabinet. The longer screws pass through the stock Marantz feet and secure the cabinet firmly to the component: no drilling and no guesswork.

See it in action

Our installation video shows our WC-22 cabinet going onto a Marantz 22xx receiver. The steps for the WC-10 are identical, just on a different component: feet off, cabinet on, feet back on with the longer screws.
