Sansui A-1100P Integrated Amp, 100 WPC, Phono, Made in Japan
The Sansui A-1100P is a robust, 100-watt-per-channel integrated amplifier built in Japan during Sansui’s mid-1980s period of refined solid-state design. It delivers strong, confident drive for a wide range of speakers and listening rooms, combining high power output with low distortion and a neutral sonic character that lets your source material and speakers determine the sound. The built-in moving-magnet phono stage makes it an ideal centerpiece for vinyl-based systems, while multiple line-level inputs accommodate digital sources, tape decks, and tuners. This unit has undergone our Level One service and testing which should ensure many more years of reliable performance ahead. Cosmetic condition is very good, with a clean faceplate, intact controls, and only light signs of careful use.
The A-1100P uses DC servo amplifier circuitry, a design philosophy that eliminates coupling capacitors in the signal path for direct-coupled operation from input to output. This approach reduces phase shift, improves transient response, and ensures flat frequency response down to DC (below 1Hz), so low bass notes are reproduced with exceptional control and accuracy. The servo circuit actively corrects any DC offset at the output, protecting speakers while maintaining sonic purity. Frequency response extends from 5Hz to 60kHz, ensuring ruler-flat performance across the audible band with headroom to spare. Total harmonic distortion is specified at 0.05% at rated output, low enough that coloration from the amplifier itself is effectively inaudible—what you hear is the character of your source and speakers, not the electronics.
The phono stage is a proper discrete-component MM design with 2.5mV sensitivity and a 72dB signal-to-noise ratio, providing quiet, dynamic vinyl playback without needing an external preamp. RIAA equalization is accurate, and the stage has enough headroom to handle hot-cut records without compression. Line-level inputs (CD, tuner, AUX, tape) offer 150mV sensitivity and an excellent 95dB signal-to-noise ratio, so modern digital sources remain quiet and resolving even at high volumes. The 130mV line output allows tape recording or feeding a secondary amplifier or powered subwoofer if desired.
The front panel includes a multi-position input selector, dual tone controls (bass and treble), and a loudness switch for low-level listening that compensates for reduced ear sensitivity at lower volumes. Speaker outputs are rated for 8-ohm minimum impedance, and the amplifier is stable driving most bookshelf and floorstanding speakers without issue. The 100W per channel rating is conservative, and real-world performance with music is dynamic and composed, with enough reserve to handle transient peaks cleanly. Build quality reflects Sansui’s Japanese manufacturing standards of the era: solid construction, reliable internal components, and a layout designed for long-term serviceability.
