Design and Drivers
This Totem Storm Sub is a high-end, compact 8-inch powered subwoofer with dual passive radiators, ideal for adding fast, musical bass to serious stereo or home theatre systems in a satin black finish with good cosmetics.
The Storm uses a front-firing 8-inch cast-frame driver and two side-mounted 8-inch passive radiators that share the same cone profile, which Totem voices for a more informative, less compressed energy flow than typical single-driver designs. Its 300-watt internal amplifier offers variable gain, phase, and crossover controls, plus a crossover bypass switch so you can either let the sub manage bass or hand that job to your AV processor. A pair of low-level RCA inputs and high/low pass audio connectivity make integration flexible in both stereo and multi-channel setups. Auto power-down brings the amp into standby when no signal is present and wakes it on signal, making everyday use simple. This unit is in good overall cosmetic condition in Totem’s Satin Black finish (a smooth, non-gloss, non-woodgrain black with a touch more sheen than typical flat satin), with a fair bit of light scratching on the top panel that is clearly visible under bright light, but far less noticeable in a typical in-room environment; sonically it performs very well and remains a genuinely capable, musical subwoofer.

Dimensions and weight
Dimensions: (Width x Height x Depth) 11 x 12 x 13.8 inches (280 x 305 x 351 mm)
Weight: 34.7 lbs (15.7 kg)
At roughly 35 lbs in a compact footprint, the Storm Sub’s substantial cabinet and dual passive radiators deliver tight, tuneful low frequencies that integrate naturally with quality main speakers, enhancing both dynamics and scale without calling undue attention to itself. For listeners seeking a current-model Totem subwoofer that can keep up with good stereo speakers and elevate movie soundtracks with controlled, musical bass rather than sheer boom, this Satin Black Storm Sub in good cosmetic condition is an excellent choice.

Totem Acoustic was founded in Montreal in 1987 by designer Vince Bruzzese, and its first speaker, the Model 1 mini-monitor, made its debut at the 1989 Toronto hi-fi show. We carry Totem towers, bookshelf speakers, on-wall and surround speakers, centre channels and subwoofers. We've had more than 60 Totem listings so far. Every used Totem here is inspected, tested and serviced as required, then photographed in-house and covered by our Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty and Perpetual Trade-Back Program. Don't see the model you want? Tell us on First Dibs and we'll email you when one arrives.
Our best-selling Totem models so far: the Tribe I on-wall speaker, followed by the Dreamcatcher and the Sttaf tower.
The Totem story
Vince Bruzzese founded Totem Acoustic in Montreal in 1987, by the company's own count. Stereophile says it burst onto the high-end scene at the 1989 Toronto show with the Model 1, a small two-way mini-monitor.
Small speakers, big reviews. Stereophile reviewed the Model 1 in the early 1990s, then the Mani-2, Tabù, Signature Model 1 and Forest. In 2009 it noted that the Model One had been in continuous production since the end of the 1980s.
Home theatre. Totem added the compact Mite and Mite-T by 1998, and later the Dreamcatcher system. Stereophile describes Totem as a Canadian manufacturer, and the company is based in Montreal.
Which Totem is which?
Model 1 family (from 1989): the Model 1, Signature Model 1 and Model One.
Mani-2: a two-way stand-mount with two woofers mounted magnet to magnet, one of them inside the cabinet, and later the Mani-2 Signature (2009).
Mite and Mite-T (by 1998): compact two-ways.
Forest (by 2001): a floorstander about three feet tall, whose lower cabinet can be filled with sand.
Other models we've handled: the Arro and Sttaf towers, the Tribe on-wall speakers, the Dreamcatcher and the Storm subwoofer.

A 10-inch front-firing Dynamic Balance woofer on a 100-watt RMS amplifier — 260 watts dynamic — in a dual-rear-ported cabinet good for 25 to 180 Hz. Yamaha YST-SW105 Active Servo Subwoofer — Compact 100W
An 8-inch front-firing paper cone on Yamaha's Advanced Active Servo amplifier — 100 watts into 5 ohms, down to 30 Hz, from a cabinet small enough to tuck beside a bookshelf pair. Continuously variable high-cut from 50 to 150 Hz, a Music/Movie voicing switch, RCA and speaker-level inputs plus full-range pass-through outputs. Very good condition.
Yamaha SW-3 Active Servo Subwoofer — 10″ Woofer | Air Woofer Tec
Yamaha’s Active Servo Technology couples a negative-impedance drive amplifier to a Helmholtz resonator port — the Air Woofer opening — so the amplifier corrects the driver’s motion as it works. 100 watts into a 25 cm cone, rated down to 25 Hz, with a continuously variable 50–150 Hz high-cut at 24 dB per octave. Speaker-level and line inputs both. Very good condition.
JVC SX-PW33 Slim Tower Subwoofer — 6.5in, 100W, High-Pass Out
A tall, narrow bass column meant to stand beside a cabinet rather than in front of it — 8.25 inches across the front and unusually deep at 17, which is the trade: the depth buys back the internal volume the narrow baffle gives away, so a 6.5 inch woofer is properly loaded in a strip of floor barely wider than a hardcover book. Driven by an integrated 100 watt amplifier, with speaker-level inputs and high-pass outputs so it works with an amplifier that has no subwoofer output at all. Good condition.
