Build a set to length →Cerwin Vega E-310 Three-Way Floorstanding Speakers – Made in the USA, 10-Inch Woofer, 95 dB Sensitivity, Front-Panel Level Controls, Refoamed by Radique
American-built three-way towers with a 10-inch woofer and a 95 dB sensitivity rating, which is a combination almost nobody makes any more.
Cerwin Vega — The Sensitivity Argument
Cerwin Vega built its reputation on output in Simi Valley, California, and the E-310 shows why. At 95 dB for one watt these produce serious volume from very little power, and that is not a marketing figure — it is the difference between needing a large modern amplifier and being perfectly happy on a modest vintage receiver. A 35-watt receiver will drive these to levels most people never use. If you have a classic receiver sitting idle because it is not powerful enough for modern speakers, this is the pair that solves it.
The Three-Way Arrangement
The three-way arrangement puts a 10-inch woofer, a 4-inch midrange and a 1-inch soft dome tweeter in a tall ported cabinet, with response reaching down to 38 Hz. That is genuine low bass from the speakers themselves, deep enough that most music needs no subwoofer at all. Power handling is rated at 200 watts and a self-resetting PTC device protects the tweeter, so an enthusiastic evening does not end in a repair bill.
Level Controls
Front-panel level controls for the midrange and tweeter let you tune the balance to the room rather than living with whatever the room imposes. A bright room with hard floors and glass, or a soft one full of carpet and curtains — a small adjustment either way makes a real difference, and very few speakers at this price give you the option at all.
The Refoam — and What Is Unusual About It
The woofers were refoamed in our own shop. Foam surrounds are the one part of a speaker of this era guaranteed to fail eventually, and refoaming is the single most common repair we perform. What is unusual here is that the work is not new. We fitted these surrounds about a year ago, the speakers went out, and they have since come back to us — so this is not a refoam you are being asked to take on trust on the day it was done. It is one with a year of ordinary use behind it, back on our bench and checked over again. The surrounds are bright orange and in good order, which on a Cerwin Vega is the first thing anyone looks at.
These Have Been Here Before
Which brings up the part worth reading twice. These are the same speakers we sold once before, returned to us through our Perpetual Trade-Back Program and now offered again. We know their complete history — what was done to them, who owned them and how they were treated. That is a claim almost nobody in used audio can make about anything, and it is precisely why the trade-back program exists.
Placement
The port fires from the rear, so give them some breathing room from the wall. Roughly six inches to a foot is the usual sweet spot; hard against the plaster and the bass will thicken up. Worth knowing before you place them rather than after.
Connections
Connection is via spring clips, which take bare wire or pin connectors — bananas and spades will not fit. Our own Radique Audio Gold Plated Pin Connectors are the right answer here, and make connecting and disconnecting a great deal easier than stripping and twisting wire every time something moves.
What They Are For
These are not subtle speakers and they are not pretending to be. They are built to play loud, to hit hard at the bottom, and to do it on whatever amplifier you already own. For rock, for movies, for a basement or a workshop, that is exactly the right set of priorities.
Condition
This pair is in very good condition.
What Owners Say
Owners rate the E-310 at 4.2 out of 5 across 24 reviews on AudioReview, and the appeal is not complicated: they play loud, they play low, and they do it on almost no power. Efficient, large-woofered towers have quietly become rare — most modern speakers assume you own a powerful amplifier and design accordingly. The E-310 assumes the opposite, and that makes it one of the easiest recommendations we give to anyone running vintage or low-powered gear.

Mirage 550 Towers — Made in Canada, Sealed 10-Inch, Walnut
Definitive Technology BP-10 4-Driver Bipolar Towers — USA-Built
Each tower is two complete two-way systems, one facing forward and one facing directly backward, both radiating in phase. That is the whole point: where a dipole panel's front and rear bass partially cancel and the speaker has to come several feet into the room, these reinforce each other and the tower is happiest eight to twelve inches off the wall. Four drivers a side, bass to 20 Hz, built in Baltimore. Graded Good, and the grade is the high-gloss end caps — three decades of black lacquer carries scuffs and a few small chips.
Tannoy Mercury F3 Slim Floorstanding Speakers — Apple Finish
A two-way floorstander built on a deliberately simple recipe: one 6.5 inch bass and midrange driver covering everything below a 1 inch textile dome, crossed at 2.7 kHz by a fourth-order Linkwitz-Riley — no midrange handover in the region the ear is most sensitive to, and drivers that sum flat and stay in phase through the crossing. 89 dB into a nominal 8 ohms, happy on anything from 10 to 100 watts, and eight inches wide. The light Apple finish hardly ever comes up. Very Good condition.
Totem Acoustic Sttaf Floorstanders — Maple, Made in Canada
Totem's slim, hand-built Montreal floorstander in the maple veneer the factory charged extra for — a single 5.5-inch driver and a textile dome in a narrow mono-shell cabinet that images far wider than its size and reaches 39 Hz. Happiest at civilised levels in a small to medium room. Fitted here with Radique Audio bi-wire bridges. Pair, ships from Kanata, ON.
Totem Claw Speaker Isolation Feet — Set of 6, Machined Aluminum
Totem's own decoupling feet — the same machined aluminium Claws the factory fits to the Forest and the Wind — as a complete set of six, enough for one pair of speakers at three per cabinet. They fix with the included self-tapping screws, so no threaded insert is needed, and work on hardwood, tile or concrete where spikes do not. Ball bearings included.
