Sherwood S-7250 CP — 1979 Silverface in Its Original Wood Cabinet

A genuinely handsome 1979 silverface stereo receiver in its very attractive original Sherwood wood cabinet — vintage warmth, connoisseur pedigree, and real turntable-ready capability in one beautifully presented package.

Sherwood — Chicago, 1953

Sherwood occupies a special place in vintage audio. Founded in Chicago in 1953, the company deliberately positioned itself apart from the mass-market giants, building receivers in small production runs and selling them through the same specialty audio shops that carried Marantz and McIntosh. The S-7250 CP belongs to Sherwood’s Certified Performance series from the company’s silver-anniversary era, and it shows the house style throughout: a clean silver dial, thick machined-aluminum knobs with a soft satin feel, and detented tone and balance controls that operate with genuine precision.

Specifications in Context

Under the wood, the S-7250 CP delivers 20 watts per channel into 8 ohms across the full 20Hz–20kHz bandwidth — honest late-70s power that goes further than the number suggests with reasonably sensitive speakers, and the amplifier comfortably drives 4-ohm loads as well. The MM phono input offers a strong 80 dB signal-to-noise ratio, making this a natural centrepiece for a vinyl system, with a tape monitor loop and auxiliary input rounding out the sources. The warm, clean character of silverface-era receivers is exactly what draws listeners back to this generation, and this Sherwood delivers it with looks to match.

Level 1 Service

This unit has undergone our Level 1 service and testing, which should ensure many more years of reliable performance ahead.

Condition

Cosmetically graded Very Good, this receiver presents beautifully — the silver faceplate is clean, and the original Sherwood wood cabinet is very attractive and increasingly hard to find intact on receivers of this vintage.

A serviced, beautifully cabineted piece of late-70s hi-fi from one of America’s true connoisseur brands — as rewarding to look at as it is to listen to.
