What it is
NAD has always spent its money on sound rather than styling, and the T 753 is a heavyweight example: about 53 pounds of receiver, built around NAD’s PowerDrive amplifier design for extra headroom on musical peaks and with harder-to-drive speakers. NAD rates it at 70 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and that rating is conservative. When Sound & Vision measured it in 2005, it delivered 93.7 watts per channel with five channels driven at once. Their reviewer called it “a certifiably great receiver” and said it sounded better overall than any other receiver in its price class he had heard that year.
On the back, NAD’s Soft Clipping switch gently limits the amplifiers at the very top of their range, so a loud passage that pushes too far stays smooth instead of turning harsh. For films, it decodes Dolby Digital-EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24 and DTS Neo:6, with six amplified channels and pre-outs for a full 7.1 layout. For music, the front left and right channels get 24-bit/192 kHz converters, it decodes HDCD discs, and NAD’s EARS mode draws natural ambience out of stereo recordings for your surround speakers.
It is a flexible hub for a system. Six digital inputs, two optical and four coaxial, take a CD player, streamer, game console and TV at the same time, and a 7.1-channel analog input suits a multichannel SACD or DVD-Audio player. There are pre-outs for every channel, including two subwoofer outputs, and the six amplified channels link to their power-amp inputs with jumpers, so you can add an external power amplifier later. A second pair of front speakers runs from the Speakers B terminals, a Multi-Source output feeds a second room’s amplifier with its own source, and 12-volt triggers and IR connections tie it into a custom install. There is an AM/FM tuner with RDS and a front-panel A/V input with a headphone jack.
Its video switching is analog: component, S-video and composite. With a modern HDMI TV, connect your video sources to the TV and send the sound to the T 753 through an optical or coaxial digital cable, and it becomes a powerful sound engine for your screen.
Around the back, the speaker terminals are binding posts that take bare wire, spades, pins or banana plugs. We recommend our own Radique Audio gold-plated banana plugs, and our Custom Speaker Cable Builder will make a set to length, ready to plug in.

Our shielded Gold Series 3.5 mm to Dual RCA cable is an upgrade if you want one, never a requirement. 👉

Yamaha RX-V561 5.1 AVR 500W — 2x HDMI, 3 Digital In, Remote
100 watts minimum RMS on every one of the five channels into 8 ohms, and dynamic power that climbs to 110, 130, 160 and 180 watts into 8, 6, 4 and 2 ohms — a receiver that keeps increasing output as the load gets harder has a supply with something in reserve. Where it earns its keep is bass management: a crossover selectable across nine points from 40 Hz to 200 Hz with a 12 dB per octave high-pass on front, centre and surround. Two HDMI inputs, three digital, remote included. Very good condition.
