What it is

House Quad is the four-conductor step of our house range: oxygen-free copper rather than copper-clad aluminum, four 14-gauge conductors rather than two, in a discreet white jacket. The white is a practical choice and not a cosmetic one — this is the cable you run along a baseboard or around a doorway, where red-and-black zip cord announces itself and white simply disappears into the trim. The jacket is printed CM/CL2, the fire ratings installers look for when a run goes inside a wall rather than along it. Terminated single-wire, as this pair is, the four conductors are doubled up: two 14-gauge conductors land in every banana plug, so each leg of the circuit carries twice the copper. Two 14-gauge conductors together are equivalent to a single 11-gauge conductor, and they halve the cable’s resistance. The same four-conductor geometry is what makes House Quad the bi-wire option in our house range, for speakers with dual binding posts.

Why this termination

Bananas at both ends is the arrangement for a system that is staying put and getting used. They seat firmly in any modern binding post, they come out clean when you swap an amplifier in or out, and they save your knuckles doing it. Our banana plugs are colour-coordinated, so polarity reads at a glance at both ends of a dark equipment rack.

Ten feet per cable gives most people enough slack to move the furniture without restringing the system.

How it is built

Every joint and every termination is heat-shrink reinforced and colour-coordinated. A blue collar seals the point where the white jacket opens, and from there the conductors run out as twisted red and black tails to gold-plated Radique Audio Banana Plugs in red and black, so polarity stays obvious at both ends. The splits and end segments are reinforced against the handling that eventually kills lesser cable.

Each cable comes coiled with its own Radique Audio hook-and-loop wrap. Assembled by hand in Ottawa, and ready to ship or collect today — no build time, no waiting.
